The jihadist behind the takeover of Mosul - and how America let him go

The fall of the Iraqi city of Mosul to the al-Qaeda offshoot ISIS has shown the power of its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi - a former US detainee

below is an excerpt

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is a nom de guerre, as is his other name, Abu Duaa, which translates roughly as “Father of the Summons”.

Some describe him as a farmer who was arrested by US forces during a mass sweep in 2005, who then became radicalised at Camp Bucca, where many al-Qaeda commanders were held. Others, though, believe he was a radical even during the largely secular era of Saddam Hussein, and became a prominent al-Qaeda player very shortly after the US invasion.

“This guy was a Salafi (a follower of a fundamentalist brand of Islam), and Saddam’s regime would have kept a close eye on him,” said Dr Michael Knights, an Iraq expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

“He was also in Camp Bucca for several years, which suggests he was already considered a serious threat when he went in there.” That theory seems backed by US intelligence reports from 2005, which describe him as al-Qaeda’s point man in Qaim, a fly-blown town in Iraq’s western desert.

“Abu Duaa was connected to the intimidation, torture and murder of local civilians in Qaim”, says a Pentagon document. “He would kidnap individuals or entire families, accuse them, pronounce sentence and then publicly execute them.”

Why such a ferocious individual was deemed fit for release in 2009 is not known. One possible explanation is that he was one of thousands of suspected insurgents granted amnesty as the US began its draw down in Iraq.

I haven't seen this anywhere else. Apparently the evidence suggest that the guy running ISIS is a former US detainee released by the Obama administration in 2009. Surely this will have legs as Iraq falls apart?

Similar tales will be told about all of the released jihadists.

Good find! Frankly, I think AQ has been very emboldened by watching the way Obama gave in to and in fact favored the Taliban in his recent release of the five terrorists. They know whose side he’s on.

I really feel sick watching this unfolding. Not only did Obama betray the thousands of young lives lost in the battle for Iraq, but he betrayed the millions of Iraqi citizens who hoped in us. All so that The Won could show a little love and unicorns to those poor widdle misunderstood ruthless terrorists. And now they’re on their way to having their own huge country.

At this point it’s rather incredible to make a claim of ignorance.

Bump.

Incredible.

The EXEMPT US Congress permitted both this release
and the recent 5 Generals — while war is going on.

I was just going to post this; thanks for posting.

“Many of those freed in the earlier Abu Ghraib break out in July are believed to have headed to neighbouring Syria, where they have proved decisive in turning al-Qaeda into the pre-eminent rebel movement in the fight against President Assad.

Al-Baghdadi himself is also believed to have relocated there, and last year renamed his group the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which sees both countries as a single al-Qaeda caliphate.”

Obama has risked a lot to get us where we are. I think his plans are big and coming to fruition very quickly. We need to pray specifically and earnestly that ISIS is destroyed.

Maybe Bush pardoned him as one of his last acts of leaving office on January 20, 2009. Not a specific 2009 release date is given, you know. < / sarcasm >

He’s risked his neck way too much for that to be his goal. I fear it’s far bigger than that. Things just clicked when ISIS took Mosul.

A Financial Terrorist made his way into our government, and his loyalty has never been here....’aid and comfort to the enemy” and where is that found, it’s in the Constitution and describes a traitor...simple as that. Most of us knew that before he was elected, so is taking so long to get an impeachment? The NWO has members on both sides of the aisle.

Too bad the American public has been dumbed down to the extent that the can't figure it out. Too busy making "friends" on Facebook, which I consider an entirely evil enterprise.

Diogenesis:" The EXEMPT US Congress permitted both this release

When you are surrounded by "Yes Men ", there is little wonder why your descisions end up " in your face "
He wants "Yes men ", and not honest decision makers !
He created the staff that gave him the answers that he wanted.
Sorta like :" All the science is already in ".. which is contrived by "Yes men " and paid hores (sic) !

Agreed, while people say they do not understand what he is doing and will not utter the words.I understand perfectly and have for years. He hates whites and desires to remove and replace all of us as well as our institutions. period.full stop.

It's becoming harder and harder to rule out the suspicion that the reason such a ferocious individual was deemed fit for release in 2009 is BECAUSE of the fact he was ferocious, not in spite of his ferociousness.

He does seem to have been working in Obama supported Salafistnetworks in Libya, Syria and now Iraq

That’s true. His ultimate goal is the destruction of the US. He’s a huge step closer to that today.
