Who is this man impersonating Chris Matthews?: Why is he saying nice things about the Tea Party?

That couldn’t possibly be Chris Matthews saying nice things about conservatives and the Tea Party on MSNBC, could it?  On Ronan Farrow’s little-watched MSNBC program Wednesday, someone looking and sounding exactly like Chris Matthews defended conservatives and the Tea Party. He then asked Matthews, “Is it rare to see that kind of brazen intellectualism, particularly in populist candidates like this?”

“Well, first of all, I don’t think you can assume that the liberals are smarter than the conservative professors,” Matthews immediately shot back. “I think that’s crazy talk like that and it’s exactly the kind of attitude conservatives can’t stand. I don’t know which professor is more popular, but that doesn’t mean it’s a better professor, first of all.”

“Secondly, I was listening to Brat last night, I listened to him today, I think he’s very sophisticated for a politician,” he continued. “He’s certainly up to the ranks in most politicians I’ve ever dealt with. He speaks in a speculative manner, in an intellectual manner, he can handle any debate on this program or my program.”

“So this looking down our noses at Tea Party people has got to stop,” Mathews added. “They have a message, they are as American as any liberal is, and they are really angry at the failure of the system.”

Discussing Brat’s stunning upset over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor Tuesday night, Farrow noted the Tea Party candidate and his Democratic opponent both teach at the same school, before adding that Brat had a lower “rate my professor” score.

Maybe he switched from whiskey to gin. Or the other way around.

Matthews is a big put on on his TV show. I’ve seen him interviewed elsewhere and he’s calm and surprisingly rational. It’s a big act for his audience there and the entire network is a trade off for G.E. to pay zero in federal taxes on their billions in profit.

“It’s a big act for his audience”

All twelve of ‘em.

I don’t think he meant to say nice things about the Tea Party. He is just voicing a warning that the Tea Party is an enemy of the liberals to be ignored at their own peril.

Or maybe he had a moment of clarity.

Brat did not get a penny of support from the National Tea Party Groups.

Chris has 2 objectives:

1. He believes supporting Tea Party candidates will make for easier Dem wins in November.

2. He needs a new approach to boost ratings.

He worked for Tip O’Neill so he can sense political trends. I don’t know if he’s being honest about the Tea Party but I’m guessing he’s reading the tea leaves and knows the Dems are in deep trouble. He doesn’t want to get swept under like all the other media lefties.

Chrissy is Re-Born! He has seen the truth and now has opened his eyes—The Tea party is more than Yahoos, bigots and ex-KKK members. It has a solid place in the American Political scene. You can not ignore them—you do so at your peril. Now if he has Sarah Palin on as a guest—and listens to her—I will know he is a changed man—or at least ballanced. We can but hope.

Let us not get too elated.

His condition will likely be temporary.

For a while, it seemed as if Kirstan Powers on FoxNews had also seen the light. But, she has basically returned to the Lib cause.

I doubt Matthews will wander far from the reservation before his colleagues perform an intervention and bring him back to his [liberal] senses.

Ratings?

Both CNN and MSNBC seem immune from ratings. For them, agenda trumps ratings. Their combined viewership is still less than FoxNews, but FoxNews continues to trend leftward.

I know what you mean about Kirstan Powers, I thought she had seen the light but it was only temporary.

“Sophisticated for a politician”?????

What kind of comment is that?

Does that make Matthews “Intelligent for a media person”???

I would dispute the terms "Intelligent" and "person" when describing Matthews.

Chris did the same during the Bill Clinton/Monica trashy fiasco. Everyone thought that he had turned, but Rush made it very clear that he had not.

Hissy Chrissy knows the liberals are not supporting him so he is testing the waters with a conservative approach. He thinks the liberals will want him back if he is doing them damage. He fails to understand that liberals eat their own more than anyone.

BINGO!

Chrissy M. needs to bring his ratings up or he will have to accept a part-time job at FOX as the Token Liberal in their “fair and balanced” debates.

That would give Token Black Liberal Juan Williams, and Token White Liberal Allan Coombs more time to write books on how Liberals never tell the truth.
