Sir Elton John has never claimed to be the outstanding political commentator of our time. Yet on June 17, 2010, during his concert performance in the Ramat Gan Tel Aviv stadium, he rebuked the hypocrisy, sanctimoniousness and bigotry of the boycotters of the State of Israel with his remark that “we don’t cherry-pick our conscience.” Elton John has refused to bow to pressure from anti-Israeli activists.

Rock on Sir Elton. And, just recently, the Stones basically told roger waters to pound sand and they rocked the house in Israel. So, I'm just wondering how many of the Israel boycotters are planning concerts in the palestinian areas? Let's see if the plo will bend to these rock(head)ers wishes in their contracts for 2 cases of absolut vodka and other demands. Uh, prolly not.

I’ve always thought that Elton John, no matter or weird or wacky his persona has never lost the “common touch”. And he is very fair minded. I saw him interviewed after he sang that song at Princess Diana’s funeral. You’ll remember it was “Candle in the Wind” with new lyrics. And the interviewer said to him: so, you re-wrote the song for this...and Elton John said: well, actually Bernie Taupin re-wrote the song. My guess is a lot of people would have said, oh yes, I did. Or maybe “we did”, but he gave all the credit to the other guy.

And I’ve always thought Mick Jagger is smart. A little nuts, maybe, but not in any way dumb.

That’s right, I’d forgotten that. IMHO it’s nuts to pay that kind of money for entertainment. Rush probably could have hired the Boston Pops for a fraction of that. (That’s what I’d do!)

I was such a huge fan of Elton John when I was younger. After he got super famous I wasn’t that crazy about his stuff, but I do still like him as a person. And of course I still love his old songs.

I’m a MUCH bigger fan of Pink Floyd than Elton John (Just look at my username), but I gotta hand it to Sir Elton here. He played Israel, ignoring his left-wing cohorts, AND he played Rush Limbaugh’s wedding. How cool is that! Besides, I was a huge fan of his back in the early 70s, like every other kid in America.

The whole BDS movement is just thinly disguised antisemitism, and in Waters’ case it’s not so thinly disguised.

I sat through 45 minutes of PETA crap waiting for Sir Paul to take the stage. Sir Elton’s shows were always about the music. An excellent showman!

True. I have never cared for him as a singer, but as a conversationalist he can be highly enjoyable. Roger Waters, on the other hand, has always struck me as a most unpleasant person when interviewed.

I saw EJ in '72 and again in either '73 or '74. The first concert was very basic, but I have never - before or since - more enjoyed a live performance from any rock/pop musician. I believe it cost me under $3.00 for the ticket. The second concert was musically less impressive, but was a far more elaborate "show" that certainly wowed the crowd. Those two events provided more entertainment per dollar than anything else I ever attended (except maybe for a surprisingly entertaining Three Dog Night concert I caught on the cheap around the same time).

I lost interest in Elton's music after his "Caribou" album, but still dig out the old stuff once in a while.

I share your opinions about Elton’s music. I saw him live twice in the 80s, great shows...unfortunately tickets were a bit more than $3. He played lots of oldies, which is why many of us were there.

When Jagger heard that Costello and Waters were boycotting Israel he said, “Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.” He and the Stones then added another performance to their schedule in Israel. Good on ya, Sir Mick!
