You don't have to be an expert to notice that costs for many essentials are at all-time high. From gas to food, Americans can expect to pay even more in coming months.
The current national average for a gallon of gasoline is $3.67 -- that's higher than it's been since 2008.
The higher prices are being blamed, in part, on the instability in Iraq.
According to AAA, both gas prices and global oil prices have steadily risen since ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) took control of Mosul last week. The brutal jihadist army is actually flying its flag over Iraq's largest oil refinery.
High demand and the cost of drilling also play a role in the high price consumers are seeing at the pump.
"It's a lot more expensive to drill for oil today so we need higher prices," oil and gas broker Tom McCarty said.
"Again, if you look at the history going back for the last four years anyway, you know oil prices have been pretty stable," he noted. "Now they tend to swing to the 105 range back down to the 93 range."
"And one of these days it's going to break out above that and I'm afraid we may be close to that happening just simply because of more demand," he warned.
The cost of food is also sky-rocketing.
The price index for meats, poultry, fish and eggs hit an all-time high in May, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Meat costs are rising the fastest. A seven-year decline in herds has left the fewest cattle in at least six decades.
Analysts warn the high prices for both food and gas are here to stay for a while.
To make matters worse, Senate lawmakers actually proposed legislation this week to raise the federal gas and diesel taxes by 12 cents per-gallon over the next two years.
The proposal was pitched as a way to pay for highway and transit programs.

Wait until the impact of Obama closing down the coal mines and coal powered electrical generators hits the economy.
“Green Energy” electric from Obama’s windmill and solar programs costs 4 to 10 times as much as electric from coal power.
And by the way - what happened to the $900 billion Stimulus money that Obama was going to use to rebuild the electric grid, roads and bridges?
It ended up being an Obama Slush fund that was just dribbled away to his pals and oter leftists.
I wonder how much made its way back into hidden bank accounts for Obama.
Every politician who voted for the Stimulus should be in prison along with Obama and his entire administration.
How do you rehydrate them/use them later?
Soak them in warm water for a bit. If you are cooking something like stew or a soup I just let them rehydrate while cooking.
I would suggest buying cornbread mix, pancake mix and other high calorie/low cost foods including those from the LDS site and buckets of sugar, wheat, oatmeal, flour and oils from most emergency food sites and even Walmart.
It’s all over the news that beef prices have doubled in that past year. Everything is on the rise. When you’re on a fixed income, it’s getting harder and harder to make ends meet. A friend called last night to say they’d been promoted so quit their second job. I suggested they keep on working the second job because you just don’t know in this economy.
Grill it outdoors to carry away the stink and stock up on bbq sauce to cover up the ick.
Better yet, make your first purchase Skittles, Arizona Iced Tea, Robitussin DM and blunts. All those are storable and can be bartered.

Every product one the face of the earth is shipped using gas along the way. That means the cost of everything will rise. Well, everything except paychecks and those will decrease in value.
Normally, I’m able to scrimp and save towards next year’s ever increasing property tax but the year is already half gone and I’ve not been able to save a dime. When property tax takes up 25% of our take home, it’s scary.

You should open and use one can of every food product to make sure the label is correct on the amount of servings it contains.

Wife saw untrimmed (very fatty) brisket at a supposed discount food center yesterday at 4.89 a pound.
There was a time a few years ago when they almost had to give brisket away.
I’ve yet to find a Walmart in Central TX that carries freeze dried foods except the occassional one serving packets for camping. And that’s a rare find. No Austin store or any towns within 75 miles lists it online.
Agreed. You also will be using more calories when the time comes that you're having to eat your emergency foods. You won't be sitting behind a desk in an air conditioned office exercising only your fingers on a keyboard. You'll be out scavaging and hunting for the family.

Everytime there’s a sale on meat, our store “forgets” to remark the label. Last week, chicken thighs were advertised at $1/lb but the packages showed $1.08 and $1.39. I told the manager very loudly that he’s cheating his customers and he has a long ongoing habit of doing so. He wasn’t happy. There’s a sale on fajita meat (used to couldn’t give it away, either) this week so I’m going to break my rule of only going to the store once a week. I can’t afford to pass up a beef sale. Last time they had it advertised, it was marked a dollar more at the store. I hollered at the meat person and made them remark 12 for me. I needed to restock the freezer. It’s still low and we’ve gone through half of that so I may make two trips to the store to restock. You HAVE to check the price each and every time. Don’t just grab packages thinking they’re priced correctly. I have a feeling more and more mispricing is going to be the standard with this economy.

Forgot to add that there were only three chicken packages in the bin. Our store only puts out half a dozen of each cut and that’s it. Even if you ask for more, they look at you like you’re crazy. Their standard answer for all their empty shelves is, “It wasn’t on the truck.” I’ve taken pictures over the past two years of empty shelves throughout the store. If there is a national coupon out, they’ll pull all of that item off their shelves. No, I don’t know how they think perisibles will last until after the coupon expires. Not that our local paper carries coupons and they don’t accept coupons printed off the computer but whatever.
BTW, it’s a HEB grocery which is a chain in TX. They once had catfish on sale and no one I knew in the surrounding towns could find it on the shelf. I threw a fit and it somehow got to the store but was never put out for the public. I had to meet with the meat guy at the back and go through what seemed like a drug deal just to get some fish. It’s like living in some turd world country!
A couple months ago, they had tortillas on sale. I found 2 packages on the shelf and wanted more. Talked to two guys from the back who tried to give me the truck story. I told them I wasn’t that stupid and when would they be getting more in. Oh, wow, they would be getting in 4 on the next truck! Not, four cases but... four packages, sigh. Oh, well, hubby complained about the store bought tortillas being nasty because he likes mine. My point in all this is I truly believe we’ll be seeing more of this shoddy business practice.
Sounds like a place I wouldn’t want to shop.
