Personally I think it is terrible that they can find out who you voted for or even if you voted at all. I think it should ALWAYS be confidential and actually after 2 election cycles all paperwork should be destroyed. I mean what was normal in 1988 when I first began voting may not be so much in 2014. For example, I voted for George H Bush for President in 1988.....however, because he was not the most conservative on the ticket at the time, if I were to run for something they could say that against me and say I was not conservative because I didn’t vote for such and such because he was more conservative the George Bush. Farfetched? Not in today’s political environment. Quite frankly it is nobody’s business who I voted for in 1988 or 2012 for that matter.
If someone is watching, even ephemeral records can be preserved.
What happened to Old Raunchy Hind? Tossed out like last years underwear?

THEY cannot find out WHO you voted for,
ANYONE can look at the county records for all elections. It shows Who votes because you sign the register.
In the primaries, if you live in a state that has a Dem and Rep. primary you are identified as a Dem or Rep by someone looking at the Primary register of people who voted
