Some traditional “normal” contraceptive methods are truly contraceptive (i.e., stopping conception as in condoms, diaphragms, spermicides, etc.).

Other hormone delivery based methods like the “pill” or rings, under the skin implants or the like are conception preventives (i.e., hormones that stop fertilization by preventing ovulation) with a small percentage, about 5%, that stops attachment of a fertilized egg if that happens..

This very different from a true abortifacient (aborts a fertilized egg) which is what this ruling covers.

Many are told that the “pill” prevents ovulation. However, it’s primary effect is to make the lining of the uterus hostile to implantation.

“I was hungry, and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me not to drink. [43] I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you covered me not: sick and in prison, and you did not visit me. [44] Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee? [45] Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.”
