Tea Party Anger Over Mississippi Loss Ripples Across States

Sen. Thad Cochran may have won Mississippi’s GOP Senate run-off last week, but his tactics of courting normally Democratic voters, including high numbers of African Americans, has enraged tea party activists in Mississippi and that anger has rippled across the Republican landscape.

The outrage among tea party supporters has spread to other states where conservatives are challenging establishment Republican candidates. Tea party activists perceive Cochran’s wooing as promising Democrats favors, as well as willing to do anything—even break with party principals—to win.

“This wasn’t outreach. Outreach is promoting our values in other communities,” said FreedomWorks executive vice president Adam Brandon. He said he believes Cochran wasn’t asking Democrats to “take another look at us.” Instead he was “just spreading cash around,” referring to financial promises they believe have been made to Democratic constituencies.

“Mississippi was a turning point, absolutely a turning point, no doubt about it because it wasn’t a battle for the heart and soul of the libertarian conservative Republican voter,” Brandon said. “We won that, we won it, our arguments carried the day with that voting bloc. It’s the desperation to turn to liberals to bail themselves out, bail their lobbyists out…That’s where they’ve been exposed.”

In Mississippi, the campaign of defeated tea party candidate state Sen. Chris McDaniel is investigating whether the Democratic votes in the Republican run-off were legal. It is legal for Democrats to vote for Cochran if they hadn’t already voted in the Democratic primary on June 3. McDaniel’s team is checking those votes.

The comments to that article have left me incredibly sad. There are two ideologies at work in this country and I don’t see them ever coexisting again...we’re headed towards a split...and I fear it will not be a peaceful one...there’s too much hatred for one another.

willing to do anything—even break with party principals—to win.

MSM's "layers of editors" show their superiority at editing again.

Slightly off thread, but did anyone else notice the use of the term “libertarian conservative voter” in the article?

It’s ... interesting ... that the FreedomWorks guy uses it.

“And why the heck doesn’t Drudge have anything about either of these things?”

Because Drudge, like Coulter, Hannity, Limbaugh are establishment. Their social and business livlihoods depend on the approval of the party bosses; Rove has them in his back pocket.

$15 could buy a couple or three bottles of their favorite booze! They don’t need to drive because they are picked up and driven to vote. Oh, and they can walk to the Liquor store because there is always one located right close to the projects. It is like a Zombie Walk from the project to the Liquor store every night.

"Tea Party activists" are likely more upset by Cochran playing the race card like a democrat, calling conservative members of his own party bigots.

Another little lie by omission from ABC.

An ok piece esp. From the MEMORIAL but again no mention of the lurid and scurrilous accusations of racism. They are helping Cochran &co. hide what they did.

Tea Party people have long memories—Go third Party—make sure Thad loses! Better a blue dog than a trecherious GOP RINO. He must be punished before his corruption hurts the party! This is an outrage.

This is ABC’s way of describing vote-buying, when it’s one of their own.

Then, the base should stay home or not vote in the Senate race.

They don't have to drive. Churches have vans that take them to the polls and there are others who drive around the neighborhoods picking them up and taking them to the polls.

Often there is a free lunch at the church or elsewhere and in some cases the name or sometimes the name and ID of a person authorized to vote for those who don't have it.

The latest interstate voter cross check tallied 6,951,484 overlapping voter registrations, and they’re just the tip of the iceberg.

The cross-check program involves only 28 states and does not include the three largest: California, Texas and Florida.

The GOPe has forced conservatives into a game of chicken with the fate of the country hanging in the balance. It is not a simple choice of what to do. Let’s say we stay home and the Rats retain the Senate. Then Scalia “accidentally” drowns in 1/4 inch of water in his tub at home. Lame duck Obama gets to appoint a SC justice that tips the balance to the commie side. Game. Set. Match. Our Constitution is history.

Though not much better, Republicans have been a little better at appointing judges that rule most of the time based on the Constitution and law. I don’t live in MS or TN, but the unfortunate position is that, if we stay home and do not vote for the Cochrans or Alexanders, the risk is higher and more imminent that we lose our Constitution and our country. If the Democrats hold the Senate, the doomsday clock will be sitting at 11:59 PM and there will be no room for error.

Nobody hates the GOPe more than me, but I still hate the Commies of the Rat party even more. Unfortunately, I think the best course of action is to keep working to replace the RINO/moderates like McCain, Graham, Cochran, Peter King, Boehner, and their ilk with true conservatives and, over time, force them to respond positively to the conservative base, or out of the party. I wish the fix was quicker, too.
