The American Flag: 'A Threat'?
Townhall.com ^ | July 1, 2014 | Chuck Norris

It's the very symbol of patriotism -- Old Glory, as William Driver, a 19th-century American sea captain, nicknamed it. But even as we close in on Independence Day, more and more people across the country are calling the American flag a threat and inappropriate home garnishing.

A week ago, the landlord of a Texas man called the American flag "a threat to the Muslim community" and ordered him to remove it from his home, according to KHOU-TV.

Duy Tran said the Stars and Stripes means a lot to him. Posting the flag was the least he could do, he said, especially in the light of his friends who died for this country.

Tran added: "What really stunned me is that she said it's a threat towards the Muslim community. I mean, I'm not a threat to (anybody)."

When KHOU-TV tried to confront the manager about the statement, she answered no questions, and the crew was escorted from the premises by a security officer with a note that read: "While the Lodge on El Dorado admires our resident's patriotism, we must enforce our property rules and guidelines. Such guidelines maintain the aesthetics of our apartment community and provide for the safety of all residents. The apartment community already proudly displays our country's flag in a safe and appropriate manner at the entrances to our community."

So even though Tran had hung his flag with proper etiquette from his balcony, it wasn't "safe and appropriate"? Are we now going to tell Americans that only one flag is allowed per 1,000 residents?

Tran rightly rejected that assault on his liberty, freedom and patriotism by saying, "I'm gonna leave my flag there, as an American, until she shows me proof that I don't have the right to leave my flag there."

That situation reminded me of another one that happened just last summer.

KOVR-TV reported that former Army Spc. Jen Elliot, who was a heavy-wheeled vehicle operator and a .50-caliber gunner in Afghanistan before being blown into a wall there and receiving a traumatic brain injury, came home to her California apartment only to find an official violation on her door from property management stating that she could no longer fly her American flag from her balcony.

Elliot explained to KOVR-TV that she flew the Stars and Stripes because it reminded her of her Army unit overseas, which had incidentally lost six soldiers in the previous three months. She explained that she was particularly "upset and very offended" by the notice of violation because it demanded that she take down the flag for which she and her fellow comrades fought and still fight.

Elliot said she would move out before she would take down her American flag. She added: "It's very important for me to have that up there. ... I'm not taking that flag down."

Am I missing something? Do you remember the days when Americans not only used to be proud to fly Old Glory but frowned upon neighbors who did not?

These travesties regarding flag flying wouldn't be so tragic if they weren't becoming so prevalent and symptomatic of an America moving away from its original mission and Founding Fathers' intent.

So for this July Fourth, I say we not only fly Old Glory proud and high but also remind our families, friends co-workers and neighbors exactly why we do.

I agree wholeheartedly with Elliot, who concluded: "We live in America. Why shouldn't we fly our flag proudly?"

And what about those who oppose Old Glory's posting?

Take your orders from Gen. Douglas MacArthur: "I see that the old flagpole still stands. Have our troops hoist the colors to its peak, and let no enemy ever haul them down."

Then don't hesitate for a moment to place your hand over your heart and say loudly and proudly for all to hear: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

You are absolutely right. I would go so far as to say that the essence of freedom is captured in the word “No”.

I always wondered why the GOP ran away from the Democrat’s attempt to define them as the “Party of No”. I always thought the Republican Party should have replied “Hell Yes, and proud of it!”.

the American flag "a threat to the Muslim community"

Isn't that implicitly stating then that the muslim community is a threat to America.

Outside of a war zone, when is the U.S. flag a threat to anyone?

Anywhere Muslims lay their beady eyes on it, that’s where!

It’s Old Glory to us “infidels”, but to muzzies it represents the “Great Satan”.

“...I always wondered why the GOP ran away from the Democrat’s attempt to define them as the “Party of No”...”

Because the majority of the GOP seems to be made up of gutless cowards that are afraid of a word. They’re afraid of being called “racist”. Or “sexist”. Or whatever other communist/socialist poly-sci made up word they come up with to smear people for disagreeing with them.

It’s just a word. It only has the power that you LET it have.

Personally, I’ve always thought the appropriate response to ANY democrat/liberal whining and screeching is a simple, upraised middle finger.

After all... THEY taught us that. Give it right back at them.

But... again, that takes testicles. And a lot of these spineless jellyfish are clearly lacking.

Amen to that.

Even though they are prevalent in my area, when I was shopping for a house, I told the realtor “no HOA, no mandatory HOA” .

I found a house in an area where, due to the developer changing from one to another back when the houses were being built, the hoa (that the first developer made) exists only on paper and cannot be activated.

There’s no onerous rules in the “HOA” just common sense stuff that is reflected in the city rules anyway....

Besides flags, the only two of interest to me were RV’s and amateur radio antennae... but even there, if its behind a fence or in an unobtrusive spot, nobody will gripe.

Nobody bothers anybody about flags.

The only thing might happen (just happened this last week) is if someone lets their lawn get a foot high, the city can come and cut it and the home owner gets a bill...

The grass issue is in the city rules, and to me it makes sense.

“...What is your’s on this so-called Independence Day?...”

Mine will be out. As it always is.

And the “Don’t Tread On Me” Gadsden will be flying right with it as well.

Every little act of defiance you can do, you SHOULD do.

Get pissed off enough, and I GUARANTEE you can say it better!!! :^)

We’re Legion... it’s about time we start remembering who we are and what we are, and tell these little pissant “block captains” to stick it up their collective arses.

We’re Americans, and our people built this country.

More and more I see how far down the road we are. The question is not ‘if’ but ‘when’.

My dear auntie was famous in our family for her precognitive dreams which were usually about family matters but which usually wound up being true.
One eerie exception happened about three months before she passed away (2010).She awoke one morning and told my uncle that she had a dream about being on a cross-country train and according to her dream all the cities she passed looked like 1945 Germany (she was born in Germany)
The dream was frightening enough for her that she refused to ever mention it again even though several relatives begged her to write down what she saw.

Had it been anyone else but my aunt I never would have given it a second thought but for some reason your post reminded me of that dream.

“HOA nazi”

It is an apartment, not a HOA.

If it’s a threat to the ROP, then they shouldn’t be living under it. There’s the door. Make use of it.

The United States flag is only seen as a threat to enemies of the United States. Think about that the next time some says something like this.

Sometimes, you don’t have a choice. Around here, any housing that’s been built since World War II is generally in an HOA. . .

I have more balls than most of our elected officials, and I’m a female.

I had it out with a democrat at the pharmacy today. The insurance no longer pays for some of my husbands meds, and I had to pay 40% more on them than a few months ago, and he is very sick.

I was mad, so I said Obama should be impeached, that he had committed “high crimes and misdemeanors” and I called it OBAMACRAP. Well, the guy behind me was from Massachusetts and said “Damn these North Carolina people were stupid” or something like that, I told the pharmacist “I’m a former Military Reservist both Army National Guard and USNR”. I may be getting old but he picked wrong person to attack.
The MA liberal said how much he loved Obama. I said ‘well that tells me how intelligent you are (sarc). I told him “I have been to MA and it was a disgusting place due to liberals.”

I told the pharmacist later when I picked up those meds, that I wanted that guy to hate NC and never come back, that he should go home and stay there. I have had it with the O Drama Democrat Marxist lovers...and will not be quiet.

IF we would all would stand up....imagine what a force that would be....

And know that ‘perfectly rendered salute” is right back at you.

‘Where two or more”...means we have the Almighty on our side as well...

Next time, and there will be one, I’ll add a line for you when giving them hell!
:)
