Target Corp. on Wednesday took a stand against customers who bring firearms into its stores. This is a complicated issue, but it boils down to a simple belief: Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create, John Mulligan, the companys acting CEO, said in a statement. The matter became a surprising controversy for the Minneapolis-based retailer in recent months when activist gun owners in Texas and other states chose the companys stores to demonstrate their belief in the right to openly bear arms.

Well since it is concealed, they won’t know. If I had to pull it out to protect myself in an event, well they would know then, but little it would do them to tell me not to bring it in cause I did, protected myself and was able to walk out alive. End of discussion.
Not sidearms but what about long guns?
In Texas, it is generally illegal to carry a handgun outside of a persons own premises. However, a person may carry, either open or concealed, in a non-threatening or alarming manner, a shotgun or rifle.

in colorado there is NO legal no-gun sign. if outed all they can do is ask you to leave. if you don't than there are complications. i just ignore them when i have to.
Thanks. I already knew the answer. I just wanted to see if there was something I was missing or if there had been a change in the existing law. I personally carry a pistol gripped 12g Mossberg pump most every place I go in my truck and sometimes on my highway bike strapped to my sissy bar. Never had any problems even when I was pulled over and given a warning for driving 10mph over the speed limit by DPS on my bike.
As a Target spokeswoman made clear to the Star Tribune, “It is not a ban,” she said. “There is no prohibition.”

maybe this is the most realistic action that Target could take to stop the social media attacks from Bloomberg’s checkbook activists. Target is saying, “Hey, we just want to sell soap. Don’t drag us into your political fight.”
Thanks for your post and the info, Target needs to change the wording of its release to better reflect what was in this Article. The statement is far from as clear as the Article makes it.
Which is precisely the conditioned reflex that the anti-gunners want you to have. And that reflex is precisely what the "rabid open carry" folks are trying to educate out of the populace. If the hypothetical "rabid open carry" individual is carrying the long gun slung over his/her shoulder, or in "hunter safe" condition (barrel down, action open), then neither you nor anyone else should get your knickers in a knot.
I don't think I would have any problem distinguishing the above situation from "potentially active hostile" at all.
I fully support the OC folks. Haven't had occasion to do it myself, but if I take up biking again, I will probably OC. Sort of hard to CCW in bike shorts.
Growing up in S. Louisiana as a teen, I routinely OC'd a 22 pistol (our farming operation at the time had some leased land a couple of miles from the home farm, and I would regularly motor farm equipment between the two sites). Pistol was loaded with "rat shot", as snakes were pretty common when cutting hay. I would often stop in at the local grocery (located about half-way between the two farm plots for an ice-cold small-bottled Coke). Nobody ever remarked on the firearm, nor the fact that I was carrying it, despite being will under 18 at the time.
Aarrgghh......”will” should be “well”. Coffee hasn’t kicked in yet.
>>> I think the rabid open carry rifle folks are paid Bloomturd plants.
I agree. What are the three most important words in reale estate?
1. Location
2. Location
3. Location
Meaning, in this case: Be appropriate to the venue.
Look, supposing I’m at a family picnic at the gun range, I’m only gonna wear a rifle to the firing line. At the table, I’m not gonna want to be wrastling with a chunk of metal hanging off me by a strap. A properly holstered handgun? Maybe.
Even in gunny locations, either chamber flags or zip ties are often employed in the hopes of detering human stupidity. You yourself can be the wisest and safest gun user in the world. Doesn’t mean squat if there’s some idiot around to ruin everyone’s day.
I don’t bother with a purse any more if I can avoid it. I can’t imagine lugging around a rifle while trying to shop, either.
Or to use different imagery (sorry) all guys got one, but it’s inappropriate to pull it out & waggle it around for everybody to gawk at.
