(CNSNews.com) -- The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has 59,297 employees 17.3 percent out of 342,089 workers total -- that make $100,000 or more in yearly salary, according to data from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Among those employees, 18,709 of them earn a salary of $180,000 or more.
An OPM database, FedScope, contains historical data on the federal civilian workforce going back to 1998. The database holds information about civilian federal workers employed by most Executive Branch agencies (excluding intelligence agencies, the White House, and the Office of the Vice President) and some Legislative Branch agencies. It does not include employees of the Judiciary Branch or congressional staff.
The database includes the numbers for federal workers at varying salary levels, set out in $10,000 increments, ranging from less than 20,000 dollars to the highest level of 180,000 or more dollars in annual salary.

Plus job security, plus a pension, plus I’m sure they aren’t working up too much of a sweat in their jobs. To rub salt in the wound, then they think they are engaged in “public service” so they can take a holier than thou attitude toward everyone else. Government employees really are turning into a Medieval ruling class.
That’s what I was wondering. Are doctors included in these numbers?
It pays well to let veterans die.
The public servants I know at the VA do pour their hearts into their jobs and they care dearly for their patients.
And they get PENSIONS on that amount!!!!!
Your public servants have become your masters...
I am sure they do. I don’t doubt that a lot of government employees care about doing a good job just like a lot of private sector employees care about doing a good job. The point is that, on average, government employees overall compensation and benefits is much better than a comparable position in the private sector.
go to medical school
Not so impressive pay for a Physician.
DISMANTLE the VA. Give vets access to the market and not be corralled by the marxists.
I would imagine they are the specialized doctors. I would imagine that they would make a ton more on the outside. I am just glad that they are willing to work for the Federal Government at such a low wage.
I greatly disagree. These doctors work a short week, have a guaranteed salary, zero overhead, little liability, excellent pensions and are generally less qualified than doctors at our major hospitals. I know doctors who never made the income these people do.
they think they are engaged in public service
They are. Gosh what is hard to understand. Had they not sacrificed, they could own their own practice and make millions a year. I can’t believe how naïve you are to believe that 180 for a specialized physician is a good money....it is horrible! By the time they pay taxes, they might get 100 grand.....maybe.
I go to the Baltimore VA and I would say that the Doctors are better than Johns Hopkins which I also use for Tricare things. I use both facilities 50/50.
excellent pensions
I may agree except for that little nugget. Federal Workers receive 1 percent a year towards retirement. So if a retired military person like myself goes into the Federal system like I did at the Naval Academy. I started at age 42. At age 62 when I am eligible to retire, I get 20 percent of my base pay. So if I am making 76K which I am, that means I get a dinky 14K a year pension......I hardly call that excellent.
Exactly. Everyone seems to think that all doctors have the ability to own their own practice and make a million a year. They don’t. Only the best do, and their lives are filled with incredible pressure. A lot of people with medical degrees are highly educated bureaucrats. I am not trying to insult them by saying this, but its not true to say that they had the choice to own their own practice and make millions.
Not to mention the $3,000 student loan payment each month many of them have to make.
Not so the physicians that make up the bulk of the over $180,000.
