Yep, W tried to pass amnesty twice, during the summer of 2006 and again during 2007. That damaged the Republican party more than anything of the past fifteen or twenty years, or more.
Bush seems quite pleased with Obama. When he came out to speak last summer, all he could say was that people who are’t for gay marriage are mean. I guess he didn’t have the guts to legalize gay marriage, but he wanted to.
