The spoiler who could deliver NC Senate seat to Kay Hagan
americanthinker.com ^ | 7/7/14 | Thomas Lifson

By all rights, the GOP should easily pick up the North Carolina Senate seat currently held by Kay Hagan. Except:

Most evenings, Sean Haugh is a pizza deliveryman.

But every other week or so, the Libertarian Party’s Senate nominee in North Carolina opens a few craft beers on the counter of the bar in his campaign manager’s basement. He takes deep gulps from a pint glass bearing an image of Austrian-school economist Murray Rothbard and expresses his Everyman frustrations with the current political system into a video camera.

So far, Haugh’s campaign barely exists anywhere but on YouTube. But it is doing surprisingly well in a high-stakes Senate contest in which candidates and outside groups have already spent more than $15 million.

Four polls lately put his support somewhere between 8 and 11 percent — not enough to suggest a realistic possibility of winning, but conceivably enough to affect the outcome of the race. The same surveys show the margin between incumbent Democrat Kay Hagan and her GOP challenger, state House Speaker Thom Tillis, at six points or less.

When I see a candidate who claims to be for small government but whose candidacy will hand a Senate seat to someone who will vote for Harry Reid as Majority Leader, I see red. It’s time for people to denounce Haugh as the spoiler and egotist he is.

I'm in NC, and I pay attention to politics.

I've never heard of this guy. This article smells trollish. Maybe not the person who posted it....but certainly the author.

I disagree. Libertarians are not republicans. Republicans aren't even conservatives anymore, so many social conservatives stay away from Republicans. (That will happen in Mississippi.)

Let each man vote the way he sees it. His vote is his vote.

Being really honest: no one knows what the hell the republican party stands for anymore. They do everything from claim conservatives are racist to clamoring for a border fence. When out of power, they talk...and talk...and talk... When in power, they spend...and spend...and spend...

With conservatives deciding to sit on the sidelines, it will be many, many elections before things turn around.

With Republicans turning more and more liberal, there is no-one for conservatives to vote for.

Liberal republicans must be destroyed at the primary or in the general election.

Isn’t the real story in this race how bad the GOP-E candidate is doing against Hagen, who I thought was toast.

No. It's more fun to attack libertarians than take a look at why your candidate isn't providing people a reason to vote for him.

It wasn’t the Libertarian that was the problem, it was the disgruntled Lugarite RINOs who voted for Donnelly.

Libtardians and Demonrats play for the same team, always have and always will.

Excuse me Beagle; I think a guy named Thad Cochran, who is an Establishment Republican, was recently on the same team with liberal Democrats and that was the only reason he won the run-off election. Libertarians have the right to be on the ballot. Anybody who doesn’t like it can go live in Canada. This is the United States of America.

(Why the hell do I keep trying to reason with RINO a** kissers?)

The fact that the State GOP of Virginia put Gillespie up as their Senate candidate shows that they are perfectly content with Mark Warner as their Senator, just as they are perfectly content with Terry McAuliffe as their governor. The last decent Senate candidate Virginia had was Oliver North, and the state GOP stabbed him in the back, too.

To Beagle8U who said:

If they (Libertarians) never get elected to anything, what is their purpose?

Their purpose is to exercise their Constitutional right to run for public office. Oh.. never mind.... you’ve probably never read the Constitution.

I'll be voting Libertarian here in Georgia in the fall. Because of our majority-needed-to-win rule, a vote for the Libertarian candidate will be a vote AGAINST both RINOs and Democrats. And if the Libertarian wins, I can actually count on her to vote against spending increases, tax increases, and unbalanced budgets. The same cannot be said for my current RINO Senators. Not even close.

If Republicans want my vote, then they should begin acting like Conservatives. Until that happens, they should not ask for my support.

I keep telling everyone, the GOP will NOT wrestle control of the Senate from the Dems this go ‘round. A lot of races are slipping away. At one time, that really bothered me; it doesn’t anymore. I relish the thought of Mitch McConnell having his heart broken because he will never be SML.... hell, I’m not even sure he’s gonna win his Senate race in KY. The Tea Party folks and true conservatives, whom he vowed to crush, will skip the Senate race on the ballot or vote for the Dem.

HE WHO DOES NOT LIKE REVENGE HAS NEVER TASTED IT!

I doubt McConnell cares if he is Majority Leader as long as conservatives lose.

I would say the Libertarian was also a problem, clearly he got votes from Republicans unwilling to vote for Mr. Foot in mouth, though Donnelly just topped 50% according to Dave Leip’s atlas.
