My take is that a President can keep himself out of prison with a pardon.
You are correct, Congress can impeach for bad breath if it wanted to. (exaggerating but you get the point. Crime does not have to be proven as in a court of law. No appeals process etc. Punishment is removal from office not prison.)

So I do think a President can avoid Prison rather easily.
