The President’s Amnesty Shell Game
Townhall.com ^ | July 10, 2014 | Derek Hunter

It took 5 1/2 years, but we’ve finally found a law President Obama is willing to enforce as written. It’s the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, which passed unanimously in both houses of Congress when they were controlled by Democrats and signed by a Republican president, and was meant to protect victims of child sex trafficking. But the intent behind the law isn’t what the president is following; it’s the letter. Seems he’s put his magical pen and phone away for the time being.

The New York Times describes it this way, “Originally pushed by a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers as well as by evangelical groups to combat sex trafficking, the bill gave substantial new protections to children entering the country alone who were not from Mexico or Canada by prohibiting them from being quickly sent back to their country of origin.” The spirit of the law was reasonable – if children, alone, were found in the United States, it made humanitarian sense to ensure they weren’t smuggled in as part of a child sex ring and that simply sending them back wouldn’t put them back in the arms of monsters.

But the intent of the law is being bastardized to advance the agenda of amnesty.

The children the law intended to protect – potential victims of perverted sex traffickers – are not who is flooding the border now, and the administration knows it. Still, it is using its provisions to slow the process and keep illegal aliens on U.S. soil.

The law requires these children be given an opportunity to appear at an immigration hearing and consult with an advocate, and it recommended they have access to counsel. It also required they be turned over to the care of the Department of Health and Human Services, and the agency was directed to place the minor “in the least restrictive setting that is in the best interest of the child” and to explore reuniting those children with family members. But with tens of thousands clogging the system, it is overwhelmed.

This has the White House claiming its hands are tied; it must follow the law.

Yet, the author of the law, Sen. Diane Feinstein, D-Calif., told the Times, “That law already provides the administration with flexibility to accelerate the judicial process in times of crisis. The administration should use that flexibility to speed up the system while still treating these children humanely, with compassion and respect.”

The administration does not appear interested in doing that.

The president originally called for Congress to change the law so the illegals could be returned to their home countries quickly, but he since has changed his tune. His focus now is on requesting $3.7 billion to increase the number of judges to hear cases and more lawyers to represent the illegals. He wants to speed up a process that was never meant to apply to this wave currently flooding the U.S. He’s also claiming passing “comprehensive immigration reform” would fix this problem, even though it would do nothing to address the current crisis. Never let a good crisis go to waste…

Expediting hearings could decrease the backlog, but it would do so only if the border were sealed. The president has no plans to do that. As such, even if the president gets what he wants, the number of illegal aliens flooding the border would only increase and the logjam would continue to grow.

More troubling is the possibility these expedited hearings could stamp the illegals with legitimacy and grant them amnesty.

The hearings are to determine if these illegals have a claim to asylum. Given his record and his agenda, the president cannot be trusted to fill those judgeships with impartial jurists. Activist judges easily could wave through countless illegals with the stamp of judicial approval, making it nearly impossible ever to remove them.

Simply put, granting illegal aliens access to a legal process never intended for them will grant them a golden ticket into the United States and bypass what the law intended for them – a quick return to their home country. Once you grant illegals access to the courts they will be here forever.

The president is correct that he’s following the law. It’s just not how the law was intended, according to its Democratic author. Congress should change the letter of the law to match the intention of it and do so retroactively, if possible (they can tax retroactively, so it may be possible), so those illegals currently being shuttled across the country at taxpayer expense can be sent back home and apply to enter the country through the legal process.

The Obama administration declared the “borders have in fact never been stronger” just last year. That was not true then, and it obviously is not true now. It’s funny now how a president so boastful of how he will act alone if Congress doesn’t act, refuses to act within the intent of a law he’s cowering behind. He has the power to act in the best interest of the United States now. He just doesn’t have the will.

Why are doctors and nurses gagged?

Why does the MSM ignore it ... pursuing next week’s weather?

Why is tuberculosis increasing in incidence in schools?

Why is there NEVER accountability or transparency?

Why are whistleblowers shut up or killed?

Why does the EXEMPT treasonous Congress delay another day?

Why are there so few pictures and videos of these co-called masses of children?

Why do the children, whose pictures we do see, so well dressed and clean looking, and well fed? Doesn't look to me that those kids trekked 1500 miles? One little girl had the cutest pink back pack on that still had the Walmart tag attached!

Why is the McCain visit (and rejection) to one of these detention centers not in the news?

If this is a humanitarian crisis north of the Rio Grande, why was it NOT a humanitarian crisis south of the Rio Grande?

I fear that there is much, much more that we don't know about this situation.

Kaslin, thanks for the post!

Moseley, all

Comments welcome, on the use of this law.

How does it compare to other anti trafficking laws?

And the laws mentioned in this article?

(Plus the administration is engaging in a “racket”)

Having been forced to sit through an hour’s worth of training required by DoD on “human-trafficking”.....I can pretty much identify the entire game as one big human-trafficking episode. All illegal...and would normally get a person fired for involvement. Yet we stand here and just suggest to everyone to overlook human-trafficking.

One of the things that Obama is not mentioning, also, is that these “children” may come up from Central America (hence, not Mexico, for the purposes of the law) but many of them aren’t even Central Americans but Chinese and others smuggled onto the Mexican border route via Cuba and VZ. It is definitely classic trafficking and everybody involved in it should be rounded up and put into jail.

That said, I’m still trying to figure out why he is doing this. It’s not to get more Dem voters (while the “children” are too young to vote, they are often accompanied by adults and something like 200,000 adults have also come in) because most of them are going to places where the Dems already have an unbreakable majority, and this wouldn’t help. Also, a growing number of Dem politicians are objecting to it because their constituents are complaining. Even Hispanics, other than a few radicals, don’t like it because they realize they are being used by Obama - and also probably because they don’t want some gang-related, unemployable teenage boy to come and take up residence in their neighborhood.

So what is Obama getting out of it? Is he doing it just for the fun of seeing everybody freak out, just to create chaos and confusion? I assume this plot was developed well in advance by Bill Ayres and the gang, since they started preparing these “refugee centers” way back in January, but what in the world are they getting out of it?

A ready made crop of underclass to suck the teat of FEDGOV and thousands of like minded 'che' revolutionaries to keep their twisted dream alive. This is Cloward- Piven in action.

Some thoughts on illegal immigration mess:

1. Bottomless pit? Do pro-amnesty supporters and Obama want us---out of the kindness of our hearts---to welcome those children from Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Honduras forever until there are no more children in those countries, because they will all be in the US?

2. Is this immigration mess turning into a bottomless pit, where wave upon wave of children flood the US, and where there is no solution in sight?

3. Undocumented: First, they were called "undocumented". A word that I still don't understand.

4. Refugees: Now the pro-amnesty people are using the term "refugees" to describe this flood of illegals.

5. If they are refugees, why don't they head south toward Brazil and other countries farther south. But no, they all head north, and even bypass Mexico.

6. No tattoos: if a person has tattoos covering the visible parts of his body like his face and arms, he must be sent back.

7. Bottomless pit: Again, is this immigration mess turning into a bottomless pit, where Obama and pro-amnesty people won't be happy until every single child in Central America journeys to America and is allowed to stay? What a mess.

Those who did this get $7000 per person,
plus they sell the girls, and the drugs,
and they get the money in rials from the terrorists,
AND the EXEMPT treasonous Congress will
give Obama another $7 billion which amounts
to $70,000 per “child”.

Lots of money ... for the thieves.
They destroy America and get rich.
Like the EXEMPT in Congress.

The article claims Obama is using the “letter of the law” as an excuse. When is Diane introducing legislation to correct her mistake?

0 is agitating, destabilizing, and diverting.

Agitating and destabilizing: causing the problem in the home countries by starting a rumor that minors will be welcomed.

Diverting: drawing away needed border patrol resources to caring for the influx, rather than standing watch for OTM’s.

Leaves the u.s. wide open for OTM’s to attack, while attention is elsewhere.

Also, after the minors are let loose, they are susceptible to induction into gangs.

Not to mention the communicable diseases, for which there is no vaccine.

0 is creating a crisis.

I’m very disturbed by this latest action, because it seems so irrational, more so than most of the things Bambi has done. A lot of the others have been aimed at cultivating powerful Dem voting groups (gays and wimmin) and the press. But even Dems and the theoretical beneficiaries, Hispanics, don’t like it, so I don’t think it’s a campaign strategy.

Therefore the only thing that comes to my mind is exactly what you have said. He’s creating a crisis. I think he’s too dumb to do this on his own, which is why his handlers send him off to go golfing, but the radicals occupying the WH (Ayers, Jarrett and the gang) are much smarter than he is and use his hatred of the US and the West to carry out their project.

Yup, not only is he creating a crisis, in direct contravention of what the constitution says that the feds (and him) are supposed to do, that is, defend against enemies foreign and domestic, and secure the borders....

0 is distracting from the other scandals.... such as this one that is heating up:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/3177858/posts?page=1#1

There’s so many going on all at once... its a shell game of scandals.

When all else fails---Boobamba resorts to the "community" thingy......even in foreign policy.

Boobamba does not see himself as president of a thriving, productive America----an America of achievers, workers and doers.

He has a distaste for a thriving republic of freedom-loving citizens----in his befuddled mind he represents self- made victims, slackers, do-nothings, lay-a-beds, gutter snipes, welchers, weasels, con artists, illegals, and other social misfits.

THE PAY-ME-I'M-A-VICTIM SCAM Obama's stupid "income inequality” whine is part and parcel of progressives' greed/envy/entitlement stupidity. More akin to a dirt-poor Third World satrap than a thriving republic ruled by laws and immutable market forces.

Obama can't seem to rise above his inane "community organizer" mentality. When he was crawling around the nabe preaching envy and greed----duping people on food stamps into believing they could payoff mortgages (ne'er do wells who taxpayers were forced to bail out).

Addicting people to government handouts is the "community organizer's" con game--to get votes--buying loyalty w/ other people's tax dollars.

=============================================

POINTS TO PONDER He looked so cool denigrating photo-ops----he was cool as a cucumber when didn't go to the border on the fundraising trip to Texas....now he's going on a 15-day vacay as the deluge pour over the border onto the US gravy train.

This is a calculated strategy by the conniving vote-crazed ding-a-ling in the WH.

He's running out the clock---he knows the media will go away---the protesters will get tired---and he knows Perry is all hat and no cattle.

SPREAD THE WORD---Once the furor dies down, he'll have the contagion "humanely" reunited w/ their parents (lying in wait in Mexico).......all of 'em bussed into key Republican precincts, registered to vote Democrat, w/ directions to the polls printed in Spanish on Taco Bell burrito wrappers.
