In an appearance on Fox News Channels Special Report on Wednesday, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) discussed the current state of affairs surrounding the issue of immigration.
Flake, the guest of the shows occasionally occurring Center Seat segment, admitted the rise of a populist movement opposing any immigration reform movement that included a version of amnesty. However, he admitted to being perplexed as to why theres such an opposition stating theres a need for not only low-skill labor particularly in the agricultural areas and hospitality areas, but high-skill labor of those in the STEM fields.
Partial transcript as follows:
STEPHEN HAYES, Weekly Standard: You indicated that you're still for comprehensive immigration reform but that nothing can happen in this environment. What do you mean by "in this environment"?
FLAKE: As long as we have crisis like this with kids coming across, you've got to deal with this immediate crisis.
HAYES: Immigration reform wasn't' going to pass before this sort of blew up or before it was on the front pages, was it? Go back three months.
FLAKE: Three months ago we did have a chance. I think the Cantor loss really was the death knell for it. Up until that time I thought we still had a shot at it. But with this crisis, no chance, obviously.
BRET BAIER, host Special Report: Jason?

They won't be flooding his kids' private schools, or getting into his gated community (unless they are in a landscaping truck.) So no worries!

However, he admitted to being perplexed as to why theres such an opposition stating theres a need for not only low-skill labor particularly in the agricultural areas and hospitality areas, but high-skill labor of those in the STEM fields. We have millions of Americans who have given up looking for work. Getting illegals out of agriculture would force farm interests to pay more, which would draw in American workers.
We also have thousands of recent STEM grads and older STEM workers not working in the fields of their education.
The reason so many Americans reject what Flake is claiming is that they rightly recognize it for the utter B.S. that it is.

As long as we have crisis like this with kids coming across, you've got to deal with this immediate crisis. ...and as long as you deal with it by talking about amnesty there will be more and more kids coming across!

The duplicitous Flake, ever an amnesty proponent, began bobbing and weaving on the issue so as to obscure his amnesty loving position when he decided to run for the senate. Once elected to it, however, he quickly reverted to full throated McCainism.
I loathe these guys who intentionally hide their positions at election time, only to do the bidding of Chamber of Commerce types once elected.

Liberals like Obama, and Republican establishment pro-amnesty types like Flake actually thought that all the children flooding over the border would cause some massive public wave of compassion and sympathy which would give a huge boost of momentum to push their amnesty bill through. They are shocked...SHOCKED...to discover that it has had just the opposite effect and has hardened the public against amnesty and killed any chance for it in the near future. Which also goes to demonstrate, when the chips are on the table, no matter what the liberal media polls say on the issue, the vast majority of Americans are NOT pro-amnesty leftists...
