SoCal Churches Offer Temporary Shelter, "Spiritual Food" for Immigrants
NBC Los Angeles ^ | July 10, 2014 | Jonathan Lloyd and John Cádiz Klemac

An estimated 50 immigrants carrying temporary visas arrived Thursday aboard Homeland Security buses at two churches in San Bernardino County that are working with federal agencies to help the families through the immigration process.

Officials with the Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino told NBC4 Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials reached out to them in an effort to address the border crisis stemming from a wave of undocumented immigrants from Central America who have recently crossed into the United States at the Texas-Mexico border. President Barack Obama has described the situation as a "humanitarian crisis."

"As a church, we want to let them know that there are people here in the United States who love and support them, they're praying with them and for them," said John Andrews, of the Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino County. "Maybe that can give them some of that spiritual food for the next leg of their journey."

A white bus marked "Homeland Security" arrived at a Fontana church early Thursday as volunteers unloaded food and other supplies from other vehicles. Volunteers are expected to transport some of the passengers to Rialto, about five miles east of Fontana.

All of the arrivals are mothers with young children, who are carrying paperwork from ICE that will allow them to remain in the United States as they wait for immigration hearings, Diocese officials said. The families will likely remain at the churches, equipped with air mattresses, for about 24 hours, according to the Diocese.

Nearly all of the passengers are expected to be transported to the Midwest, authorities said.

I will remember this the next time that our San Bernardino Bishop Gerald Barnes calls for one of his “special collections” in all of the parishes in this diocese.

As soon as they announce that, I am standing up and walking to the back of the church in open protest. ( I still want to be there for the rest of the Mass.)

I mean watching Lindsey Graham talking as though he was never for AMNESTY ..

Though Im wondering if it is all back peddling because its an election year..

hes not the first...it might be that what is happening on the border is a shock to them..

though we have been warning them all along that AMNESTY would just cause lots of other illegal aliens to think they could just waltz in here to and stay ...

My opinion is it is all for show, kabuki theatre if you will. He has already won his primary, so I think he is feeling pretty confident.

They may be twisted but Graham and his ilk are not shocked, merely quasi good actors ( they are lawyers after all) Truth is GOPe want the dependent underclass as much as the dems, they just won’t admit it. Pardon my cynicism.

That being said, I would go to the polls and vote democratic just to get Graham out. I am increasingly of the opinion that the GOP as we know it must be destroyed so a true conservative movement can be rebuilt in its place

I wonder of these people will think they are doing the Lord’s work when they catch a contagious disease that US doctors don’t have much experience treating because it only crops up in the third world.

I refuse to donate to any diocesan collection precisely because I will not contribute to the deliberate destruction of my country. We had Catholic Charities appeal recently, and I pledged nothing. Was a time, before I realized how much money was being used to enable the illegals to break into our nation, that I gave generously.

Saw the news clip.

People were bringing in frozen waffles, and other junk food.

Where’s Moochelle and her healthy diet?
