ORLANDO, Fla. —

It's something most of most students learn in elementary school -- the United States is made up of 50 states and the District of Columbia. But Channel 9's Justin Gray found out it's a lesson that an Orlando agent with the Transportation Safety Administration seems to have missed.

Gray, who lives in Washington, D.C., was flying out of Orlando International Airport when a TSA agent said Gray's District of Columbia driver's license wasn't a valid form of identification. Gray said his license is legal and up-to-date, but the TSA agent didn't seem to know what the District of Columbia was when Gray arrived at the security checkpoint over the weekend.

He would have gotten thru security quicker if he just pretended he was an illegal immigrant from Columbia (the country) and that Obama said he was okay to fly.

It’s the new 57 state standard that causes the confusion.

Reminds me of the story about the person from New Mexico trying to order tickets to the olympics in atlanta, the amish ticket sales person refused to sell the tickets because she didn’t know New Mexico was a U.S. state.

I agree with the screener. The DC is clearly separate from the US. Look at the way the leaders and inhabitants act.

District of Columbia

Didn't they lose to Brazil in the World Cup?

If you can fog a mirror you can work for the TSA.

In 1996, Olympics in the ATL mixed with Neal Boortz - who had a recording of someone from New Mexico calling Atlanta for some tickets.

The ticket agent said “at this time, only US residents may order” - the potential buyer was thinking I don’t know what - and said again “I’m in New Mexico.”

The ticket agent said [I will never forget this] “New Mexico, Old Mexico, it’s still Mexico”

LOL kind of...

Then there’s the house rep from ATL who feared putting any more military personnel on Guam risked capsizing the island.

This is another story of incompetence for the ages.

Just DAMN!

I had this happen in California. I was flying back from Los Angeles to my home in Ohio. When I showed the TSA agent my Ohio drivers license, he asked me to step to the side, and summoned his supervisor. The supervisor took my license and disappeared for 10 minutes. When he came back, the TSA agent waved me back over, gave me back the license, and said i could proceed.

I asked him what that was all about. “Your license is a non-standard license.” Huh? Its the same one everyone else gets. These are the geniuses supposedly keeping us safe.

When I was a kid living in Del Mar, California we had a cat EXACTLY like that one. We also had a mixed terrier female dog named “Wendy”. Those two hated each other. The cat would do mean things to the dog, and vice versa.

One incident I remember to this day almost sixty years later was the dog entering the den, the fireplace was lit, everybody sitting around reading, or watching television, and the dog spotted the cat laying on the floor adjacent to the couch. She (the dog) feigned looking about for something, and turned as she did so. She then backed up, still looking into the air for some unknown somethingerother, continued backing up, and sat down on the cat.

I can’t remember the cats name right now, but that cat screamed, and took off running. We all laughed as the dog acted unconcerned. She then looked behind her at where the cat had been with an expression one might say of... “OH MY! What was that about!? OH WELL!

I’ve heard a story that a deputy sheriff in a rural Georgia county apprehended what he thought was a car load of illegal immigrants and took them to the county seat, well off their intended route. He knew that they were immigrants because of the New Mexico license plate on their car.

It's understandable.

The people in the District of Columbia don't know what they're supposed to be, either.

How many tax dollars are going annually to support this imbecile?

Yeah, but if you can actually do more than that, you can't work there.

Ah, someone who remembers the Juan Valdez coffee commercials. I still chuckle over an item on a gag list of the top 10 signs that you may drink too much coffee; you receive a personal letter from Juan Valdez.
