The Mississippi Supreme Court is seeking more information about state Sen. Chris McDaniel's request for voting records as he prepares a possible challenge of his loss to Sen. Thad Cochran in a Republican primary runoff. McDaniel lost to six-term U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran by more than 7,600 votes in the June 24 Republican runoff election.
McDaniel attorney Mitch Tyner said enough evidence has already been found to challenge the election. He said an official challenge will be filed within the next 10 days.
McDaniel did not attend Wednesday's news conference in Jackson.
"This is not a challenge right now. This is a process by which is afforded to the candidate by both code and case law, and it's well-founded in Mississippi," said state Sen. Michael Watson, R-Pascagoula, one of the attorneys representing McDaniel. "It's a full examination of election materials. It's a look under the hood of the election process in Mississippi."
Watson said candidates have the right to review the materials and a duty to act as a check to the system.
"There are a lot of people who play a role in the election process. If those same people understand, 'You know what? Somebody might come behind me and check my work. I better get this right,'" Watson said.
McDaniel claims voters cast ballots in both the Democratic primary and the Republican runoff, which is not allowed by state law.
The Cochran camp said there might have been hundreds of improper votes, but not enough to overturn the election.
Ditch Mitch.

Go, Chris, go! Make the Geezer & the Turtleneck & Flimsey sweat.
McDaniel and his team are RELENTLESS. We need more like him and fewer surrender monkeys. McDaniel will be a mighty reinforcement for Ted Cruz in the Senate.
Thanks. They would be filing it now if were not for the stall tactics of the Cochran-Barbour gang.
McDaniel’s lawyers have more than 10,000 pages of evidence of fraud. They are working 24/7 like machines to get it all annotated but in addition they have filed 20 writs of mandamus and all the replies and everything that goes with those. It is a wonder they have come this far and have not caved to exhaustion. These are real fighters.
You nailed it!
RELENTLESS! That should be their motto!
RELENTLESS!
RELENTLESS!
RELENTLESS!
Mitch held a fundraiser with some Senators including, Bob Corker,
my Senator. That money was directly used to fund racist ads against
McDaniel and to buy votes.
Agree. Ditch Mitch.
Relentless fighters!
If there are enough seats for a majority vote RAY.
RAY = RAT
They have no problem inviting the enemy to vote against conserbatives
Vote RAY?
Don’t understand.
It was a typo -— the ‘Y’ is right next to the ‘T’ on the keyboard. He meant “Vote ‘RAT” and I agree with him. Cochran must be defeated by any means necessary.
Bump.
Cochran MUST go!
Hopefully, a huge pile of mud will end up on the GOPe and those who sided with Cochran and Barbour will be thoroughly discredited.
This has convinced me beyond a doubt that Tea Party conservatives are more despised by the GOPe than they are by Rats.
Thank goodness for principled fighters like McDaniel, Walker, and Cruz. They are not easily cowed and Rats will have a difficult time coming up with a strategy to stymie them.
It’s a shame the gop won’t attack the democrats with the fervor and vitriol they attack Conservatives, even though those republicans who attack Conservatives all brand themselves as Conservative.
Bummer. This wasn't a cornerstone of McDaniel's case, but a ruling in his favor would definitely help his team determine that certain voters double voted. There are cases of several voters with the exact same names and the only way to verify the double votes was to check addresses or birth dates (which were redacted). This ruling allows doubt to enter the picture.
