Gangster John Dillinger’s lifelong career of crime—he robbed at least 12 banks and four police departments and was accused of shooting and killing an East Chicago police officer while escaping one bank robbery—ended, with his life, eighty years ago today outside the Biograph Theater in Chicago, Illinois. Agents from the Division of Investigation (DOI) of the Justice Department (DOJ), a predecessor to the FBI, surrounded the theater based on a tip from an informant and then shot and killed him when he resisted arrest outside.

Today, under Obama, he would be running it.

If you think the FBI has mission creep and has grown well beyond original intent, watch what happens to Homeland Security

shot and killed him when he resisted arrest

He didn't exactly resist arrest. He was gunned down before he could do much more than blink.

I had heard a few other people were accidentally shot too.

He should have had a dog, he might have had a chance to get away then....as the shooters would have targeted the dog first.

Just kidding...I don’t endorse Dillinger.

His penis is in a specimen jar filled with alcohol at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington. I’ve seen it.

1934 was a good year for U.S. LEO's -

John Dilinger
Bonnie & Clyde
Pretty Boy Floyd
Baby Face Nelson
and a host of others ...

On the down side - also the year the Congress passed the NFA - National Firearms Act.

Did Melvin Purvis strike a match on the butt of his pistol & light a cigar to signal that Dillinger was within range?

The “Lady in Red” who cooperated with the FBI ended up getting deported, IIRC.

Purvis lit a cigar as a signal that Dillinger had emerged from the Biograph and that the agents should move in.

The Lady in Red was a madam of a whorehouse that Dillinger was known to frequent, and was threatened with deportation to get her assistance in catching him. In the end, I believe she was deported anyway.

And Melvin Purvis ended up comitting suicide, his career in ruins after crossing swords with J Edgar.

The next President needs to abolish Homeland Security.

Homeland's becoming a private thug army at the intersection where criminal mobs, gangbangers, liberal elites, and Radical Muslim terrorists merge... an organization that protects all manner of criminals breaching our borders and society. They are part of the problem.
