Tony Dungy is being proven right, and his critics in the media are helping him do it.
Dungy, a well-respected coach and revered figure in the NFL community, currently finds himself at the bottom of a media dogpile because he said he would not draft St. Louis Rams rookie linebacker Michael Sam, who became the first openly gay NFL player earlier this year.
I wouldnt have taken him, Dungy told the Tampa Tribune in an article published this week. (Reporter Ira Kaufman later revealed that the quotation is from a separate interview he conducted with Dungy in February.) Not because I dont believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldnt want to deal with all of it.
Its not going to be totally smooth . . . things will happen.
But if Dungy was hoping to avoid starting a narcissistic media kerfuffle, he ended up doing exactly that starting one.
Now, the Super Bowlwinning coach of the Indianapolis Colts has become the goat of sports media. One after another, commentators have lined up to label Dungy anti-gay and homophobic. Keith Olbermann gave Dungy his Worst Person in the Sports World recognition, while Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports wrote that the remarks were some kind of Jim Crowera awful. One doesnt have to go more than a few paragraphs before a columnist points to Dungys Christian faith as the reason; the real gumshoes cite the Indiana Family Institutes Friend of Family Award he won in 2007 when the state passed a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

Justin Blackmon, Previously Suspended Indefinitely by the NFL, Arrested For Marijuana Possession

...but an indefinite suspension for weed.
Nice league you’ve got there.
Believe me, the moonbats doing all of the bellering are totally unable to see that they have proved Tony’s point.
+10 for Tony
The Rams drafted Sam to get diversity brownie points and will cut him before preseason ends.
The proud and overbearing sexual deviants are the new “untouchables”...in so many ways.
[Michael Sam? I can’t figure out if he wants to be wide receiver or tight end.]
Either way isn’t he a down lineman.?
Queer now trumps black in the liberal hierarchy of the victim/voting bloc class....
Homos Vs. Blacks
Which group will carry the day with the Obama Media?
The MSM/LSM/Obama Media will always side with whichever group works hardest to try to spit in the face of God or against His people.
In the convoluted world of liberal "Rock, Paper, Scissors":
Homosexual trumps Black
Homosexual trumps Female
Abortion trumps "It's for the children"
"Endangered" rats trump people
"Climate Change" trumps people
Etc, etc, etc
We probably need a spreadsheet to figure out all of the possibilities!
Tony should make amends by telling the world he thinks anonymous annal sex in public bathrooms will cause the seas to stop rising and the planet to heal.
No, he doesn't know this. Otherwise he wouldn't have contracted with the Oprah network for a show. Sam is nothing without the hype.
A big one of the criteria is "character". For instance a college player who gets busted for drugs, or shooting people, or just plain being a rotten person.
IIRC, Dungy has mentioned players that were "DND". Do Not Draft.
And they all had to do with character. Not one had to do with sexual orientation.
BTW, I wonder just how THRILLED the Rams coach is going to be when badgered day in day out about Sam.
Not about how the team is doing. What about SAM?
When Chick Fil A was a soft target, they came hard! When they fought back, homos buckled and ran!
Stand tall Coach Dungy!
Do you think that is a violation of the RICO act?
:-)
I'm sure Michael Sam has been sat down by the Rams, his agent, or anyone else who knows a damn thing about football ... and has been told that a seventh-round draft pick ain't sh!t in the NFL these days. He may be a "celebrity homosexual" outside the NFL, but he's going to make or break his career on the field -- it's that simple.
Jerry Smith was an all-pro player for the Redskins who died from AIDs. I don't know how many of his teammates knew he was a homosexual, but apparently a number of them did. He never publicly admitted to his sexual identity.
I guess at some point in the future there will finally be some great player of a team sport who will admit to being a homosexual. Will he be accepted? I have no idea. I know the feelings of the average sports fan my age (sixties) is to be repelled by the possibility of a homosexual athlete even though obviously there's been a number of them in the past....all closeted. A lot of the feelings may have to do with the male sports world always being thought of as being strongly heterosexual. Will the younger generation be more accepting? I have no idea.
