An executive of a Loop company, upset that he was being demoted, walked into the CEO's office on LaSalle Street this morning and shot him twice before turning the gun on himself, police said.
The executive, 59, was dead on the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. The CEO of ArrowStream, Steven LaVoie, 54, was wounded in the head and stomach and was in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Does nobody just negotiate an exit package anymore?
Yeah, right. Makes me wonder how far down they demoted him. With his resume it shouldn’t have been too far but who knows.
I cannot tell you what a complete cluster-fuck it was in the building while this was going on.
While the media plays this shooting up as well handled by the police, the truth is it was a complete cluster-doodle. I know, I work on the 18th floor, one floor above where this incident occurred.
People were told to "stay at their desks" while this was going on. Why? So we could get shot in the line of duty while working????
The "building security" in this building is nothing more than a bunch of retired folks who generally can't move very quickly if their lives depended on it.
One of my co-workers went for coffee just seconds before this happened. He arrived in the lobby and was told by Chicago Police to "go back to work!"
Really? I'd have told the Police Officer where to go and how to fornicate themselves I was going to do no such thing! What the heck were they thinking telling someone to "go back to work" during a workplace shooting?
Yeah, that's like telling those who were trapped in the World Trade Centero n 9-11-01 that they should keep working as the fire was under control.
We know how well that worked out. This whole thing and how it was handled was a complete disgrace.
I know at least one person who works at the company where this shooting happened (one floor below mine) and they were all told to "get in a conference room" while the shooter was on their floor.
WHAT?! Conference rooms in this building all have glass walls so how safe was that?
People just DO NOT THINK when these things happen I suppose. NO way in hell I'd listen to their instructions to "get in a conference room" ... They're lucky they weren't all killed too.
The stupidity on display during this thing today just boggles my mind.
Generally speaking, true. This building however is a "gun free zone."
I work there, I know.
