'Google barge' in Maine headed for scrap

The barge carries dozens of containers that create a four-story building. Google reportedly envisioned the barge as one of three floating luxury showrooms in San Francisco, New York City and Los Angeles. But the city of Portland's spokeswoman says the structure is being sold and dismantled.

I think it was an NSA collection barge myself. Investigating new ways to capture, compress and collate electronic comms data real time.

I, too, thought the barges were some type of NSA backup in case of some type of emergency “event”.

It’d still be in operation if so.

It’s a wonder they didn’t think to use them as more concentration camps for those “children” that are crossing the southern border.

Not necessarily. It was drawing too much speculation and attention. There as long as it needed to be and now is probably scaled down to the size of a 40’ semi-trailer, soon to be parked near you.

Research shows that the San Francisco barge was towed up-river to Stockton this past Spring:
