I have seen the future of iced coffee.
There I was, wandering the grocery-store aisleswhen suddenly, next to the kombucha, opposite the rotisserie chickens, I spotted something I never thought Id live to see.
A blue and white cartonlike the half-pints of milk that come on elementary school lunch traysemblazoned with the words Blue Bottle New Orleans Iced Coffee.
This coffee is legendary in the Bay Area, and now that Blue Bottle has expanded to New York, Im sure its name echoes on the streets of Manhattan and Williamsburg, too. Brewed with chicory, cut with whole milk, sweetened with cane sugar, its a cold coffee beverage that is at once sophisticated and unpretentious. Its not an austere challenge to the Starbucks-trained palate like so much of high-brow coffee culture. It just tastes good in an interesting way.

The coffee and almond flavors combine in a way that is super tasty.
I notice Wal-Mart now sells jugs of Starbucks ice coffee.
I love my iced coffee, but black only——no sweetener.

I make iced coffee. I grind and perk dark roast coffee beans, I have two percolators. I use decaf, and let it perk dark. Put it in half gallon containers and add about 1/3 to 1/4 milk when I serve. Doesn’t need ice when stored at bottom of fridge and tastes mighty good on an hot day.
Dad drank iced coffee all his life. I also make a mean from scratch iced tea, with lemon slices.

To each his own but I wouldn’t drink the stuff.
Same here, I’d never heard of iced coffee (or of a drink called iced coffee) when younger, even though my dad would freeze leftover coffee into cubes and use it to cool down the next day’s coffee. But it’s delicious in a hot and muggy New York summer.
Iced is awful....for me.
Here is my morning coffee recipe
I grind dark roast one a week and keep it in the freezer in a jar.
At night spoon the right amount of ground coffee in a pot
Add desired amour of water
Next morning simmer for 5 minutes
Strain with fine mesh kitchen strainer
Drink black and hot, no sugar
Sometimes I add a spoon of thick black molasses
The little cups are ok if you feel like sharing with friends but you haven’t lived until you drink a whole colada by yourself and toss the little cups into the wastebasket unused.
