Not a general breakthrough? Private benefit? Corporal punishment avoidance?
A mysterious interplay exists between the spiritual and physical worlds that defies secular science’s ability to posit causation.
I don’t underestimate the ability of secular science to screw it all up, however. Vulnerability to suicidal wishes can be a challenge, but it needn’t be styled as a destiny, which is the corner that secular science with its one dimensional models of causation tends to force us into. I.e. the science can be a great servant to a life philosophy that is based upon classical theology. It can’t supplant it.
