An open letter to the political right
Townhall.com ^ | Aug 3, 2014 | Derek Hunter

Dear “Conservatives” and “Establishment Republicans,”

I write today in the hope you all can get over whatever anger, distrust or bruised egos this primary season and political year has caused you. We on the right need to unite and send a message to progressives by unambiguously retaking the U.S. Senate in November.

We all have some problem with what’s happened so far. Someone we liked lost a primary. Someone we didn’t won. Some piece of legislation we hate passed; some other piece we liked did not. No one is completely happy, but we all know things can get much worse – and will if we don’t put aside what divides and do what we must for the cause of liberty.

The political right has a habit of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. This is exemplified by libertarians, and it’s the fast track to political irrelevancy.

Libertarians will hate that I’ve placed them on the right of the political spectrum, and indeed many of today’s libertarians indeed have no political home and are all over the map. Today, the term covers everything from the great Reason Magazine to big-government, socialized medicine-loving Bill Maher. The present day “libertarian” label can mean anything, so it means nothing.

But I’m not talking about those libertarians. I’m talking about the Ron Paul libertarians who were quite comfortable in a Republican Party with which they agreed on a majority of issues.

Back then, libertarians put aside their differences with conservatives and Republicans to work for the defeat of liberals and progressives. All three groups thrived, as did the nation. But now too many focus on the disagreements, the differences, and the scars that come with fighting for what we believe, win or lose.

Both sides have scars, but too many of us...

Every single one of them voted for Obamacare. Priority should be to get rid of Harry Reid.

Consider “Maverick” McCain and his “Gang of Eight.” Suppose the Demcorats didn’t have enough votes to pass Obamacare. Based on “The Gang of Eight’s” past behavior what do you suppose they would have done for their “friends across the aisle?”

The trolls have no core principals; they’re squishy moderates, pragmatists even, who will vote for the GOP no matter how down and dirty they are - look at Thad! And why? Well! The GOP candidate is less horrible than the Democrat candidate! Reid - my God, he’s awful! McConnell, while he’s a nasty, brutish person, he’s GOP!

Nobody likes the lizards and nobody wants the lizards in power! But you’ve got to vote for our lizard otherwise the wrong lizard will win!

It's an interesting psychological phenomenon.

There are people who will organize and train people to infiltrate and promulgate propaganda through social media sites. They are for hire to anyone, including political parties.

If you get the impression you're being read a list of "talking points", maybe you are.

Sometimes you’ll see obnoxious, hate filled crap posted by someone to try to tie a certain behavior to a political or ideological enemy.

To the squishy moderate Republican supporter, that's bad! It makes the moderate uncomfortable, seeing us refuse to support their DemocRAT-lite candidates. As a result, we get called names, like “petulant”, “uncompromising”, “spoiled children” who will “cut off our nose to spite our face”, etc.

The “family” beat the dog mercilessly, starved it and treated it with cruelty and contempt. One day the dog snapped it's chain and slipped out under the fence. The family pursued the dog and attempted to entice it back. The dog refused and ran away.

Is it the dog's fault for not trusting the family or is it the family's fault for not being worthy of trust?

But ya love 'em, don't ya, those bad boys? If they were running against a Democrat, you couldn't get yourself to the polls fast enough to vote for 'em all over again...

If Bob Dole, John McCain, or Mitt Romney can’t keep the democrats from kicking in their own doors, what hope do I have with my little ole door?

The politics of corruption run deep in our nation’s capitol.

I do not have a side, I have a vote, one honest vote, just like you. The other side can make up votes out of whole cloth. I decide nothing, the side that counts the votes or packs the ballot box decides everything.

Traditionally we’ve had the “Soap Box” of 1st Amendment Rights along with the “Ballot Box” of the vote.

They’ve taken both away from us.

What do we have left?

No excuse for the despicable antics of the GOPE in Mississippi. I still think a write in campaign is the best answer.

I refer to the Gope as democrats hiding in the republican party. Their purpose is to promote the goals of the left/dems.

Hope and Change replaced by despair and foreboding.

It is all that is left.

Indeed. Look at the robocalls that were made accusing McDaniel and his supporters of racism. Paying people to post to a website or post comments to news stories isn't too far removed from paying them to make phone calls.

Fraid I do. Ol Turkey Neck is one of my Senators. Would love to see his butt out of office but Grimes is a left wing nut job who I think would be worst. There are a ton of sellouts in the GOP-e but they are driven by money not by insane ideals that in the past have produced mass graves. In KY we all know politicians are thieves and we allow them to steal unless they get to greedy. The Dems are driven by beliefs that if you happen to disagree with you may end up with a hole in the head and in one of those mass graves.

I would prefer we keep the House and take the Senate if we have to hold our nose to do it. Cruz goes to the House and blindsides Boner, in a couple of hours. If we hold the House and take the Senate, conservatives can and will rise up and take control of both. Who has the backbone to stand up to Cruz or Sessions in the Senate, or Gowdy or Gohmert in the House? No one can.

In three months we will either have a party or we start loading some mags. It’s that simple.

Yeah, but we’re supposed to support and trust them. They wouldn’t screw us over like they screwed McDaniel, would they? Right!

The establishment always tries this condescending lecture about ‘coming together.’ It’s easy for them to say after they ruthlessly run our candidates out of town with an aggressive campaign, and then going milquetoast in the general.

Then the RINO goes on to get humiliated in the general, and then somehow conservatives or the tea party is to blame, never the failed candidate.

I am not chastising conservatives or the tea party or anyone of any stripe on the right. What I am saying is the Dems cannot win in Nov. unless we stay at home. Yes by all means get the infiltrators out of the party but we will not do it by sitting at home and allowing the Dems to win.

There is a ton of the GOP-e that needs to go but the result if they do this election will be to give total control to the Dems again.

Makes me think of three guys in a foxhole, one who is round the bend, pulls the pin on a grenade and drops it to the floor, saying that will show them.

If we keep holding our nose, they don't have to do anything about the stench. If we tell them we're going to keep holding our nose, they sure as hell aren't going to do anything about it.

Have you watched what GOP leadership did to McDaniel? Do you really believe they won’t team up with the Democrats to destroy Gowdy, Cruz or anyone else who challenges them?

If the GOP wants my vote they need to attack the Democrats with at least the same ferver in which they go after Conservatives.

Until they can do that, screw them!
