Joe Carr: Record Early Voting Turnout Proof of Campaign's Momentum
breitbart.com ^ | 8/4/14 | Tony Lee

Joe Carr, the Tennessee state representative who is challenging Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) in Thursday's primary, said the record turnout for early voting shows that he is closing in on Alexander.

Appearing on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125, Carr said Alexander does not have a double-digit lead, as his campaign claims, and the race is "very, very, very" close because voters are excited to support someone like Carr who will fight for the rule of law and stand against amnesty in a way Alexander has not.

Carr also blasted Alexander for being absent last Thursday in the Senate when Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) killed the Senate's border bill with a budget point of order. The bill, which did not preclude President Barack Obama from using federal funds to enact executive actions, died, but Alexander was nowhere to be found.

"He took a powder," Carr said.

Carr said that Alexander was in favor of amnesty because he agrees with the Chamber of Commerce that "we need oversupply to keep wages down."

In contrast, Carr said his "highest priority" has always been fighting illegal immigration, which was what got him elected. Carr is the author, architect, and sponsor of every major illegal immigration law that is currently on the books in Tennessee, and he said, if elected to the Senate, he would ensure that the federal government partners with states to enforce immigration laws, instead of treating them like the "red-headed stepchild."

When I was young I was a big advocate of early voting, but I was wrong.

Doesn’t early voting mean Democrats? Not familiar with TN but in MS, that was the case.

“When I was young I was a big advocate of early voting, but I was wrong.”

I don’t like early voting because I don’t trust who would be guarding the votes in the interim. Everybody should vote on the same day. It’s only twice a year, tops.

It looks hopeful in Hamilton County with Republican ballots requested 3 to 1 over Democrat ballots. http://www.chattanoogan.com/2014/8/2/281577/Over-21000-Vote-Early-In-Hamilton.aspx

I'm hopeful, but I don't think that we can read too much into the early voting totals. There are a lot of local races that may be driving turnout, too.

By the way, in Blount County, those requesting Republican ballots outnumbered those requesting Democratic ballots by more than 9 to 1.
