What we know about Michael Brown's shooting
CNN ^ | August 12, 2014 | Eliott C. McLaughlin, CNN

Posted on 08/12/2014 9:14:52 AM PDT by Uncle Chip

It's a case of he said, he said. The accounts of why a police officer fatally shot Michael Brown on a street in Ferguson, Missouri, this weekend couldn't be more disparate.

One side says the teenager was surrendering, his hands in the air to show he was unarmed, when the officer opened fire. Authorities counter that Brown attacked the officer in his car and tried to take his gun....

Here's what CNN has learned ...

Brown and a friend were walking to Harris' house, his mother and grandmother said, when a Ferguson police officer confronted them.

This is where the stories part ways.

Dorian Johnson told CNN affiliate KTVI that he and Brown were walking in the middle of the street, and the officer told them to use the sidewalk....

There was an exchange of words, witness Piaget Crenshaw told the station, and the officer exited his vehicle and fired a shot. Both teens ran, Crenshaw said.

Johnson told KTVI he hid behind a car, but Brown stopped after a second shot was fired. Brown held up his hands to show he wasn't armed, Johnson and Crenshaw said, and the officer shot him twice.

"(The officer) shot again and once my friend felt that shot, he turned around and put his hands in the air," Johnson told KMOV. "He started to get down and the officer still approached with his weapon drawn and fired several more shots."

That Brown was unarmed seems undisputed -- St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said every casing found at the scene was from the officer's weapon -- but he said in a Sunday news conference that Brown was not an innocent victim.

"The genesis of this was a physical confrontation," said Belmar ....

One of the witnesses on a video news report. Don’t remember where I watched it.

Authorities counter that Brown attacked the officer in his car and tried to take his gun....

"The police chief says they assaulted the officer while he was getting out of his car, and that a struggle over the officer’s firearm ensued"

Which is it?

You do realize "getting out" means he was still "in his car" and was transitioning to "out of the car." These are not in conflict.

Might have been shot inside the car, and was still able to run away for a bit before he collapsed.

I grew up in Rochester, NY in the 50’s, and there were jaywalking laws being enforced back then. The city has gone to the dogs since then. Makes me glad I moved away in the early 70’s.

I distrust the police almost as much as I distrust these looting blacks. I know that the police will make up stories to justify killing anyone, not just blacks. and the blacks will pretend to infinity that he was just a good boy, turning his life around, wouldn’t hurt a flea....

Prety much how I feel. Can't trust either group. Both have given me reason not to.

There’s going to be dash cam video or a cell video that will never be shown once Sharpton and Crump get their settlement checks.

Or when it is shown, the important parts of the screen will be covered up with network logos.

And the shots the officer fired at him as he was running away were for good luck?

Reports say Brown was shot 35 feet from the car where the struggle started, but they don’t say (that I have seen) that the cop was still in the car. The struggle could easily have moved 35 feet from the car. Where the casings are found will be enlightening.

Which is it?

You can be in the process of exiting (taking off the seatbelt, opening the door, and stepping out), but still be in the vehicle.

Fleeing Felon.

Was he convicted of something between the time he allegedly tried to get the cop's gun and the time he was shot?

Unarmed and 35 feet away is not a good story.

Well, some don't die immediately. This is pure speculation, but he could have been shot much closer, turned to run, and died after a few seconds. Really, 35 feet isn't that far to get on adrenalin alone.

Getting shipped out of town to avoid further trouble on home turf was the same with St. Skittles. Both were out roaming the streets instead of under a responsible adult’s thumb getting a lesson in attitude adjustment.

Yet he was such a good boy....

The problem is that these kids get slapped on the wrist and told not to do it again. Then if they live to adulthood they are shocked when they actually get put in prison.

Wait for it to finish eating, then shoot, heat up the frying pan, and have dinner.

“Was he convicted of something between the time he allegedly tried to get the cop’s gun and the time he was shot?”

I’m pretty sure assaulting and trying to take a cop’s gun (if it happened) is a major felony. You don’t get to just walk away from that.

Garnishing it with whatever is left over from the endangered plant, of course.
