I somewhat agree. We need some police protection. We don’t need an army of police with drones and tanks even if you live in a high crime area. Ask your local jurisdiction how much (%)of your tax obligation goes to fund an entity that you and many law abiding citizens may not have had any contact with in years. Is it worth a $2000 a year or more to have police protection?

This leads to the question of what percentage of non-traffic crimes are solved? 25%? 10%? 5%? 1%?

A hard question to answer, since we don't know (at least I don't think we know) what kind of deterrent effect on crime that the mere existence of a police force exerts. Is it substantial or minimal?

I’d be really interested to know if you’ve really analyzed your tax bill and local govt budgets to know you’re really spending anything like $2k a year in police services. I am certain I am spending only a fraction of that, less than $200/yr. and we have a good level of policing.

If you are, I’d suggest you move somewhere with less taxes and fewer police. If you don’t know, I suggest you do your homework before posting.
