Ted Cruz rallies to the support of his friend and political rival Rick Perry

In a sign that the indictment of Texas Gov. Rick Perry for abuse of office and coercion may not be having the political effects some have hoped for, Sen. Ted Cruz, the Republican junior senator from Texas, has taken to his Facebook page to express support for the governor. Cruz is considered a possible rival to Perry for the Republican nomination for president in 2016. However differences are being set aside, at least for the time being, to rally around Perry.

“Unfortunately, there has been a sad history of the Travis County District Attorney's Office engaging in politically-motivated prosecutions, and this latest indictment of the governor is extremely questionable. Rick Perry is a friend, he's a man of integrity – I am proud to stand with Rick Perry. The Texas Constitution gives the governor the power to veto legislation, and a criminal indictment predicated on the exercise of his constitutional authority is, on its face, highly suspect.”

Cruz, an honors graduate of Harvard Law School, served as Texas Solicitor General for a time, having been appointed to that post by current Texas Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott. Cruz also taught Supreme Court litigation at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, a subject he is somewhat familiar with as he argued a number of cases before that court as solicitor general. He currently serves in the United States Senate and is said to harbor higher political ambitions.

Cruz’s endorsement of Perry suggests that, at least in the short term, Perry’s indictment has had the effect of raising his popularity among conservatives. Whether this will last if the case drags on, a certain hope by Democratic partisans, remains unclear. Also unclear is how many other Republican office holders, especially potential presidential

Cruz fan here, too, but this pukeball of a move by Travis Co. can work out to be a tremendous GOTV in November.

Again, did the RATS really think this one through?

Just reading the headline of the charges against Perry, it was obvious they were stretching. Very manufactured and convoluted. No one cares about what he did, just ruining him is the cause.

We want him on the border protecting our country.

They don’t.

There are things going on in this country and this is what they spend their time on.

You KNOW they are searching for anything on Cruz. Heck, on this SITE, they go on about his wife working for Goldman Sachs like it’s the President of the US having clear and distinct ties to an enemy of the State (which he DOES)

Cruz knows they’re after him. He’s getting up close and personal with them, too, with this.

While every one of the Republicans on the short and long lists would be much better at the job ("president", not "golfer") than the current resident, I don't see any really outstanding candidates yet. By August 1950, Eisenhower hadn't even started his last job (1st Supreme Allied Commander Europe) before being elected President.

Then you are blind.

Senator Ted Cruz stands head and shoulders above everyone else. The only other possible candidates with his principled conservative stature and fighting spirit are Governor Sarah Palin, Senator Mike Lee, and Senator Sessions. In the second tier would be Governor Walker and in the third tier would be Governor Perry.

The rest or midgets where fidelity to Conservative principles are concerned, and a fighting spirit. Especially where Illegal Immigration and the Social Issues are concerned.

WE get the creepiest feeling driving through Austin. WE had to stay there for a few days once and the place just oozes something inexplicable. I don’t even stop to visit Stevie Ray’s statue (I will some day) I just want to get out of there.

I shared this with a friend, who said, ‘oh, yeah, we sprinkle Holy Water driving through Austin’.

There’s something about Austin.

Rove always has it as the background on the Fox interviews, just BTW

Not too worried about the GOTV this fall, as every state wide candidate, including A-Barbie has already been written off by the dnc.

I think there may be one or two possible contested USREP seats that it might be a factor.

My hope is that this witch hunt is seen for what it is, a slap at our governors effort to improve surveillance at the border. You know this had to piss off the punk socialist POTUS terribly.

One of Rick’s lawyers:

David Botsford, weighed in late Friday evening.

“I am outraged and appalled that the Grand Jury has taken this action, given the governor’s constitutional right and duty to veto funding as he deems appropriate. This clearly represents political abuse of the court system and there is no legal basis in this decision. The facts of this case conclude that the governor’s veto was lawful, appropriate and well within the authority of the office of the governor.

Today’s action, which violates the separation of powers outlined in the Texas Constitution, is nothing more than an effort to weaken the constitutional authority granted to the office of Texas governor, and sets a dangerous precedent by allowing a grand jury to punish the exercise of a lawful and constitutional authority afforded to the Texas governor,” Botsford said.

There are other persons very qualified to discharge the duties of POTUSA, especially very much above the choice level of 50% of the populace. I believe that Gowdy, West, even Dr. Carson and others are out there for Republicans to choose from. Just stay away from the NYC area where the USA is mired in foreign influence.

Just get all those locales to drop out of the CAPMETRO taxing authority. BTW, the Austin Un American Ultra Liberal Longhorn Non Statesman had the largest print about Perry being indicted on the front page. Saw it at my neighbor's house, but the next article's title was:

Experts: Charges Will be Hard to Prove in Court

Wish Perry could call an emergency session to get Travis Co DA out of the loop! give it to Abbott.

I am having a hard time calculating how the RATS expect to gain from this. What do you think they’re planning to net from it?
