A black president couldn’t stop the Ferguson race riots
The London Telegraph ^ | August 17, 2014 | Dr. Tim Stanley

Violence continues in Ferguson, Missouri. It began on August 9 with the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed African-American teenager cut down by a white cop’s bullets. Peaceful demonstrations turned into looting, the local police went in with rubber bullets and tear gas, all hell broke loose and, eventually, Missouri’s governor pulled out the local police and sent in state officers instead. But the rioting only paused; it didn’t cease. And it may continue. That’s probably because it’s driven by a deep, deep anger that will take a long time to calm.

Observers might ask, “How can this be happening in an America that has elected a black president?” How can black kids still get killed by white cops and how can towns still burn in race riots?

Part of the explanation is that the recession has been especially tough on African-Americans – reinforcing historical disparities of wealth between the races. Before the credit crunch, the median net worth of a black household was $12,124, compared with $134,992 in white households. After the crunch, the black net worth fell to just $5,677, compared with $113,149 among whites. Black home equity fell by an average of 28 per cent and retirement savings by 35 per cent. In May 2014, the black unemployment rate stood at 11.5 per cent – more than double the white jobless rate of 5.4 per cent.

To make matters worse, blacks face additional challenges at home and in the streets. There is a crisis in black fatherhood: while just 29 per cent of whites are born out of wedlock, the figure is 72 per cent for blacks. One result is a racial imbalance in welfare dependency: African-Americans make up about 13 per cent of the population yet 39.8 per cent of those on welfare rolls....

Remember the BP Deepwater Horizon Gulf oil spill? I can’t understand why 0bama didn’t walk out to it and lay hands on it, to stop it.

After all if Bush is responsible for Katrina, certainly 0bama is responsible for the BP spill.

I would have rather Obama just kept his big yap shut about Ferguson, but since he decided to meddle, why didn't he show some real leadership by telling these hoodlums to knock it off? Instead he has already judged the police to be at fault before a proper investigation could get under way.

Now I think the officer will be crucified to satisfy t he bloodthirsty savages, Obama will declare victory and the thugs will continue to loot and burn.

” That’s probably because it’s driven by a deep, deep anger that will take a long time to calm. “

There is a deep anger ... and anger that has increased over the last fifty years.

However, it is not anger that is driving the looters.

Well, speaking for my own household, looks like I'm way below the supposed white median.

Are they tossing in mortgages to come up with that figure?

I note that nobody mentions ebonics, and the seeming refusal of many inner city kids to buy into the sorts of things that would make them successful. Do they excel at education? Do they try to fit into the society that would employ them?

Tatoos, gangsta knee length pants, lip piercings, gang signs, these do not evidence anyone who is particularly trying to make a success of life. It's evidence of someone trying to game the system, make their cash on the streets, and look cool to their homies.

Yes white American, hand your head in shame for not employing these kids. That's the real problem.

Not talking to you Jessie and Al. You guys are doing just what you should be. Someone else is always to blame, and any attempt to tell it like it is, must be racist. Back to what you were doing men. You are not responsible, and never will be.

The leader of this pack sits in an oval office. Shout out from D.C. boys...

I sure hope our next “first black president” is better than this one.

Don't forget. Bill Clinton was the "first black president" too.

He does, however, get one thing right:

“Sadly, what they have discovered since the days of the civil rights movement is that government isn’t always their best friend and the promises of the Left can be empty.”

Times are sure getting tough. Now you can’t even rob a store without the cops bothering you.

” How can black kids still get killed by white cops ...”

Well first they have to rob a store then charge at a cop.

Here’s something interesting.

Ferguson population 97% ‘black’.

Ferguson police department 3% ‘black’.

Apparently, black cops don’t want to live or work in Ferguson if they can help it. I guess they know how unsafe it is.

Not so much the “first black president”, but the “black Attorney General” working for him that is pouring the gasoline on this fire. The SECOND autopsy ordered is to cover up the findings of the FIRST one. Michael Brown died of bullet holes which entered from the FRONT, and he was high on some kind of illicit drug. “Holding up the hands” was a gesture whose intent was to do a slam-down on the policeman in the line of his wild charge.

Yeah. Of course they're angry. Their liquor cabinets are nearly empty. No liquor, no peace.

The population of Ferguson grew rapidly during the first six decades of the twentieth century, from 1,015 people in 1900 to 22,149 people in 1960, an average growth rate of 5% per year. Since 1960 the population has remained nearly constant. The racial composition of Ferguson has shifted since 1990, however. In 1990, residents of Ferguson who were identified in the U.S. Census as White comprised 73.8% of the total, while those identified as Black made up 25.1%.[22] (The remainder, 1.1%, identified with other racial categories.) In the 2000 census, 44.7% were White and 52.4% were African American. In the 2010 census, 29.3% were White and 67.4% were African American.

I’ve read elsewhere that Ferguson was 99% white in 1970.

I would be ecstatic if I could recruit hard-working blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Indians or whatever for my company. Too bad so many expect $15 an hour with minimal labor involved.
