Actually, they were tried and found non-guilty. That’s what precipitated the riots (I was there).
It was only a federal double jeopardy kangaroo trial that later got a conviction.

I think perhaps that he means the tape clearly showed excessive force on tape, I think it’s undeniable. The local courts found that while it may be excessive it was justifiable based on Mr King’s actions, hence the rioting.
