President Obama went back to his vacation on Martha’s Vineyard Tuesday evening following less than 48 hours in Washington, leaving people puzzled over why he came back in the first place.
Obama’s two days in Washington were mostly quiet, and concluded with the president receiving his daily national security briefing in the morning, and joining Vice President Biden to huddle with members of his economic team in the afternoon.
Administration officials have insisted for weeks that the president just wanted to return to the White House for a series of meetings, but the explanation was met with a healthy dose of skepticism, since Obama rarely interrupts his vacations.
Judicial Watch estimates the extra roundtrip cost $1.1 million. Only daughter Malia accompanied Obama back to Washington.
Speculation for why Obama returned focused around the possibility of a secret foreign leader meeting or the roll out of a new administration initiative on immigration or corporate taxes.
But no such explanation materialized.
The most unusual deviation from a normal day at the White House was Obama’s dinner Monday night at Sam Kass’s home. The president, joined by deputy chief of staff Anita Breckenridge, spent nearly five hours at the White House chef’s Dupont Circle duplex apartment.
It’s possible that the party may have been a celebration of Kass’s impending nuptials to MSNBC host Alex Wagner. The couple announced their engagement last September. But the White House provided no details of the meal.

So one of the “explanations” I had heard earlier pertained to Sasha. Said she’s not there on vacation (she’s not) and that perhaps he was coming to pick her up But Malia came back with him???? And just where is Sasha??? And for that matter, Michelle? These people are just crazy and don’t appear to care a hoot about each other, let alone any of us.

There were some people who were speculating that this trip was health related. If he had a big dinner or meeting with this guy, what does it mean? Some alternative natural healing therapy discussions?

I’m betting this guy gets his own “healthy” show via Oprah. That’s why Michelle stayed there. Oprah hates her.
KB, your guess about Love is probably a lot better than mine. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the PTB have laid down the law, and proscribed RL’s presence for the time being. Personally, I think Obama’s dismal poll #s have them genuinely spooked. That, plus the related wipe-out they’re almost certainly facing in Nov. As a result, they are starting to come to grips with a reality they’ve previously ignored with gusto.
Why do I think that? Because of a very strange article on NewsBusters. To wit: “Ezra Klein: ‘The White House No Longer Believes Obama Can Bridge Divides. They Believe…He Widens Them’”
Here are the takeaway lines:

Now since when has Obama ever worried about making a bad problem worse? That’s actually been his MO from the beginning; it’s what Alinsky teaches radicals to do. So if the WH is finally actually starting to worry about stuff like this, it can only mean that their internal polling re: Obama’s popularity & the electoral devastation in Nov. is worse than imagined. Bad enough to shock them out of their Alinsky world just long enough to spend a few minutes in the real world.
So to me, that says Love has been exiled, perhaps once and for all. They just can’t push the envelope any more, now that Obama’s poll #s are circling the bowl. That’s my take on it, anyway. Ymmv.
My guess is that he found himself running low on office supplies.

Either:
A - He had to stop in for a few more bindles of blow from his stash, or
B - He needed to get away from the Wookie and any destination would do, even going to work for a minute.
Come on. That’s exceptionally low to drag his daughter into the insult/accusation pit.
He postponed amnesty because he doesn’t want to not change the news away from “unarmed black teen ‘executed’ by white policeman”.
Malia, 16, returned to Washington with her father early Monday and was not expected to go back to Martha’s Vineyard. The White House said Sasha will join her parents this week, without saying when she will arrive or what kept her away last week, or why Malia left the island....
...Obama’s retreat to Martha’s Vineyard was not the first family vacation without Sasha. In June, Sasha skipped a family Father’s Day weekend in Southern California.
