How Ferguson could be America's future

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

From questions about democracy to positives coming from conflict, social scientists offer different takes.

The protests in Ferguson, Missouri, have been described as a mirror into contemporary America, but they are also something else: A crystal ball.

Look past the headlines -- the debates over race and police militarization that have surfaced after the killing of an unarmed black youth by a white police officer -- and one can glimpse America's future, some historians and political scientists say.

No one is talking about an impending race war or a police state, but something more subtle. Unless Americans re-examine some assumptions they've made about themselves, they argue, Ferguson could be the future.

Assumption No. 1: Tiger Woods is going to save us

It's called the "browning of America." Google the phrase and you'll get 18 million hits. By 2050, most of the nation's citizens are expected to be people of color, according to the Pew Research Center.

Dig beneath the Google links and one can detect an emerging assumption: Racial flashpoints like Ferguson will fade in the future because no single race will be dominant. You could call it the Tiger Woods effect. The New American will claim multiple racial origins like Woods, the pro golfer. Demographic change will accomplish what a thousand national conversations on race could never do: lessen the sting of racial conflict.

A dramatic increase in interracial marriages will change the racial landscape as more people cross racial and ethnic lines to marry. But that change won't be a cure-all, says Rory Kramer, a sociology and criminology professor at Villanova University in Pennsylvania.

He says racial progress is not inevitable with the browning of America.

"I don't want to deny the optimism," Kramer says. "I deny the assumption that it will happen without effort."(continued)

Now do you understand why they've been pushing immigration for decades?

The factor that correlates best with the establishment of social justice is the generation of real wealth though a productive capitalist economy. Borrowing, printing of dollars, restrictive rules and regulation that inhibit innovation and business development,a war on carbon energy sources and high taxes neither produce real wealth or social justice.

Money’s going to get tighter in the future as we lose reserve currency status. That means racial lines will become harder.

Liberal elites see Tiger Woods as multiracial - and he is - but white people see him as black. And outside of black intellectuals black people see him as black too.

The person who wrote this probably believes communes are beautiful, communism would work if it was tried in the ‘right’ country - and that global warming is true. And so was peak oil, and the population bomb, the Club of Rome, and every other bullsh*t liberal scare story.

Liberal elites fill the extremes - we’ll all live in utopia - and the world’s going to end soon without their help. In short - they’re nuts.

By 2050, most of the nation's citizens are expected to be people of color, according to the Pew Research Center.

It'll be sooner than that with Obama's immigration policy of let anyone and everyone in.

What will happen is that tribalism will increase. Blacks will continue to vote in what they perceive are their interests (more government goodies) and Hispanics already are doing that somehwhat, but will more so. And whites will of course be told if they vote in their interest they will be called racist.

tough times ahead.

“Two-thirds of the city’s population is black. The mayor and police chief are white; as are five of the six city council members. There are three blacks out of 53 people in its police department.”

Apparently, there aren’t enough dead Democrats voting in their elections.

But seriously, 2/3’s of the city’s population is black and they don’t have their preferred color of leadership in power? Who’s friggin’ fault is that? George Bush’s?

I disagree with CNN!!! The people adrift at sea are just one group.....African-Americans!!! Not all of them.....just the Obamabots, thugs, criminals, shysters, murderers, liberals, media, Democrat party low life, etc. Good news...notice how the Al Sharpton protests have amounted to almost zero turnouts by African-Americans.

Notice how the Rodney King, OJ Simpson, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, riot, lootin, marches, etc. have really produced zilch gain for African-Americans!!! Why? The problem is culture and self-isolation in a cruel world beset upon them by themselves and their Obamabot leaership!!! No other ethnic, religious group in our country has this massive problem. Why? Because over the years they have all assimilated from the “Melting Pot” into general American society. And...these various people were slaves or indentured servants at one time or another!!!

So....the country turning brown is not the problem. It is doing just fine!!! the sooner Black America self examines itself and its self-caused problems...the faster they will move forward in acceptance as full blown, accepted American citizens!! And...I can tell them for sure...hanging with Obama ain’t the way!!!

Note AVERAGE Family Wealth vs. MEDIAN Household Income. Since AVERAGE is used where MEDIAN might have been, I assume this means the arithmetic mean, which is usually the default “meaning” ( haha ) of average, anyway.

The point is, the mean is likely to be much higher than the median because of the small contigent of extremely wealthy families. I’m supposing this will exaggerate the “race gap” in Family Wealth among the “middle classes”.

Future? It's a shadow of the past.

As for "browning of America"

Here's what I remember. What Really Happened in Cincinnati

Riots of 1967 & 1968

The Avondale section of Cincinnati was mostly black residents and driving from downtown through Avondale was a popular commute route until..

On the first day of violence, as she was driving back to her apartment, a brick flew through the car’s open window and struck her. "Man, you hit her in the head!" one brick thrower admiringly exclaimed to his buddy. At the hospital, Schoonover recognized an acquaintance among the dozens of bloodied people waiting for care: a rioter had jumped into her acquaintance’s car and beaten her viciously with a brick.

There are many white commuters dragged out of their cars and beaten. IIRC one died.

I would sharpen your thought, excellent thought, a little.

Shadow needs an adjective.

It is “It’s a pale shadow of the past” or maybe even “It’s a dim shadow of the past.”

Had it spilled into St Louis, it might matter.

Why can’t they say this at the PU research center.

“By 2050 most of the citizens will be Americans.”

BUT as long as politicians keep pandering to the content of melanin race relations will get worse and worse and worse. Any black person who says they are “African” American place that backward 3rd world continent ahead of being an American is doomed to failure. They are no more African than I am.

The "mean" is the "average" you're used to, where you add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of numbers. The "median" is the "middle" value in the list of numbers.

The point is, the mean is likely to be much higher than the median because of the small contigent of extremely wealthy families. I’m supposing this will exaggerate the “race gap” in Family Wealth among the “middle classes”.

Whether it is the average family wealth or the real median household income, there is still a real gap in wealth that has not changed very much over the past 50 years.

Actually, if there are just a few extremely wealthy families, the median household will go down regardless of race. The 1% are mostly white.

Wealth - as contrasted with income - is a function of the ability of individuals to make good choices. Ferguson is filled with individuals who will never be wealthy. They make bad, self-destructive choices. Welfare rewards them and pays them to procreate.
