It occurred to me that when I found out *who & what* he and his regine-from-hell was, we should have picked our own cotton a long time ago. Slaves and illegal aliens never assimilate; legal immigrants do. Never had this feeling before, since I grew up with black boys in WVa, for a few years, before moving to IL in late 50s. I hate this feeling 0bummer has burdened us all with, probably for the next 50+ years.
I see pictures of my immigrant grandparents, and how veryhard they worked during the depression to keep food in the mouths of their children, and giving anything they had to spare to others suffering more than they ddid...I would be hard pressed to find a man that worked harder and more hours than my grandfather...so when folks feel “entitled”, I just want to slap them! My grandparents never asked anyone for anything...and look how well I turned out :-)

The poor, pitiful point that I am trying to make is this:
The battle is not and never has been about...
rich vs. poor, or
women vs. men, or
white vs. black, or
old vs. young, or
republican vs. democrat...
The battle is, and always has been about, good vs. evil.
Both sets of my grandparents were the same way, feeding and clothing others with what they had to spare after my parents and their brothers and sisters were cared for. Even my great grandpa, whom I met when he was 106, living in a shack in Red Lion PA, who was a blacksmith and master carpenter, made furniture, toys, carriages, firearms etc for his family, and others, much of it for free so they’d have something in thos terrible times. His handlebar moustache was just like mine... eerie.

My dad once told me the reason why jmis mother hoarded toilet paper (we found over 200 rolls in closets after she died) was because after the depression, she never again wanted her family to have to wipe with the purple papers peaches wrapped in when packed into the crates. And I remember my dad telling me how she would take the flour sacks nd make underwear for her 9 kids out of them during the depression...she was 4’10” of feisty Prussion wonderwoman! WOUld that I could ever grow up to be even half the remarkable woman she was!
