Don Surber: Ferguson shows Democrats’ problem
The Charleston Daily Mail ^ | August 27, 2014 | Don Surber

For years, liberals have pointed to demographic projections with glee.White people seem headed to becoming less than a majority in America. Liberals say this poses a problem for the Republican Party as most white people now vote Republican, providing the party’s base.

But the scenes of rioting in Ferguson, Missouri, pose a similar problem for the Democratic Party. In recent years, Republicans have diversified without becoming Democratic Lite.

Democrats haven’t.

Republicans have three Hispanic senators (Democrats have one) a black senator (Democrats have one), two Hispanic governors (Democrats have none) and two governors whose parents were born in India (Democrats have none).

Where Republicans fail is in electing black candidates.

Democrats own the Congressional Black Caucus, but this comes at a price. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 requires racial gerrymandering, which herds black voters into districts that are overwhelmingly Democratic.

Roughly one-fourth of the Democratic vote comes from black voters. This means Democrats pit 75 percent of their voters against 99 percent of the Republican voters in the remaining 400 or so congressional districts.

Which is why despite receiving more votes in the congressional races in 2012, Democrats lost 234-201.

Race in America is not simply a matter of black and white.

The nation now is six parts white, one part black and one part all other racial minorities.

That white portion is expected to fall to four parts while the black portion remains one.

What will change is people who are neither black nor white will rise to three parts of the eight. That is where the issue of race in America is headed.

The black vote is a no-growth area for Democrats, but maintaining that voting bloc carries a price among people who are neither black nor white.

Affirmative action is the best example. It has helped many black students get into the college of their choice. But affirmative action means Asian-American students need near perfect scores to get in the college of their choice. Any resentment is understandable. Racial preferences are racist no matter how well-intended.

Another divide is economics. Increasingly, Democrats are the party of the 1 percent at the top (Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and other billionaires are liberal) and the 47 percent at the bottom. That leaves the middle class to the Republicans. This explains why Republicans have a lock on Cuban refugees and their descendants.

Many other legal immigrant groups also are inclined to vote Republican.

Ferguson shows another problem for Democrats. A white police officer killed a black teenager. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and other so-called leaders used the case to ignite a firestorm.

But far from being the hunting of a black man, the case looks more and more like a gray area. The victim was unarmed, but he also was 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds. Minutes before the shooting, the victim shoved a shop owner out of the way as he walked out of a store with a pack of cigars without paying for them.

Initial news reports were that Brown’s hands were up in a surrender position, but police say he was punching the officer at the time of the shooting. Liberals now say the facts don’t matter. This is a bigger issue than a shooting.

Many people who are neither black nor white might agree, but for different reasons.

A store owner looking at the video of the shoving of a shop owner may recall the riots after the Rodney King verdict. That rampage caused $1 billion in damage in Los Angeles. Much of that damage was to stores in the black community owned by Asian-Americans.

As a candidate, President Barack Obama promised a post-racial America. He has failed to deliver. Labeling critics as racist is one big reason. People who are neither black nor white notice this failure, just as they noticed looting in Ferguson.

They notice many other things by each party. They will vote accordingly.

One huge problem is that polls taken show that 40% of adults say the riots were justified. What does that say about the state of things in America? 40% of adults actually believe it's alright to go out and burn and loot businesses because they're unhappy with a shooting of a person who was probably a thug by a police officer.

If 40% really believe rioting and destruction of private property was somehow justified because of this incident, we might as well start drawing up plans for the big split now.

I've read Mr. Surber quite a bit, but why do people keep saying this? It's bull. It's complete bull for the insta-Welfare illegals.

They want you to believe that is has something to do with race. This is a ruse. The racial issues used by the democrat party is what Lenin referred to as useful idiots. This is all about communism vs capitalism. Everything else is a means to that end. The democrats are masters at propaganda, lies, deceit, manipulation, and are controlled by Satan himself. Who else would support homosexuality and abortion except the Master of deceit. Don’t be deceived by their methods.

Rally in Ferguson held 3 weeks after Brown’s death; attendees say movement just beginning
Published August 30, 2014
Associated Press

FERGUSON, Mo. – A few hundred people are gathering again in Ferguson to remember Michael Brown and draw attention to what they say is just the beginning of a movement.

Saturday’s rally is being held at West Florissant Avenue where it meets Canfield Drive, the street on which the unarmed black 18-year-old was shot and killed Aug. 9 by white Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson.

People are wearing shirts and carrying signs with slogans such as “hands up, don’t shoot,” and “we want justice.”

St. Louis attorney Jerryl Christmas says the rally is meant to keep Brown’s death “in the forefront of America.”

There is a muted police presence. Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson, who’s been in charge of security for more than two weeks, is posing for selfies with rally attendees.

I can't find a Senator “Hernandez” listed anywhere.

The author claims the GOP has 3 Hispanic senators.

I'm still mystified about whom the third one might be.

Do we have someone with an Anglo name, but Hispanic parents?

Cruz and Rubio are both Cubans, by the way.

A lot of Hispanics ridicule the idea that “white” Cubans with European ancestors are “Hispanic.”
