The Meltdown [The Most Incisive Analysis of The Obama Presidency!]
Commentary Magazine ^ | September 01, 2014 | Bret Stephens

The Meltdown 09.01.14 Bret Stephens

In July, after Germany trounced Brazil 7–1 in the semifinal match of the World Cup—including a first-half stretch in which the Brazilian soccer squad gave up an astonishing five goals in 19 minutes—a sports commentator wrote: “This was not a team losing. It was a dream dying.” These words could equally describe what has become of Barack Obama’s foreign policy since his second inauguration. The president, according to the infatuated view of his political aides and media flatterers, was supposed to be playing o jogo bonito, the beautiful game—ending wars, pressing resets, pursuing pivots, and restoring America’s good name abroad.

Instead, he crumbled.

As I write, the foreign policy of the United States is in a state of unprecedented disarray. In some cases, failed policy has given way to an absence of policy. So it is in Libya, Syria, Egypt, Iraq, and, at least until recently, Ukraine. In other cases the president has doubled down on failed policy—extending nuclear negotiations with Iran; announcing the full withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan.

There's precious few woman who do the job called for in leadership...they bring to many leftover “maternal” ideas with them and attempt to-incorporate these into the agenda's. It always weakens the structure of a company and governments....which in to days world needs greatly strong and tough leadership. Thatcher was an exception, but even then it was her administration advisers who held her up. I've worked under men and woman managers and GM'S....the difference is astounding and generally people slacken off under a woman. I'd work under a poor performing man any day over a woman...at least you can reason with a man and get to a solution much quicker!

“And now we pay for the mistakes that were made.”

They are not mistakes... all of it was deliberate Piven-Cloward strategy of a seasoned community organizer. And the voters let it happen. Given that there was such a body of evidence of what he is about, it was deliberate.

We will pay for this for generations to come.

Stop...we can survive Carter’s 3rd term.

Most of my lefty friends are less than enamored with his performance.

I think he should join a troupe of dancing bears when his term ends.

Article II of the constitution clearly states an election process and being chosen by electors.

Fail...

Nope. 100% of a group of 90% would vote for him but, most my lefty friends are waiting for his term to end.

Lackluster is the word I have from them most often...

And the sheep will eat it up. They will swallow that line hook, line, and sinker. You can look for each successive generation to get dumber and dumber, all claiming to be the highest educated generation in history.

It is stunning how quickly 0bama is succeeding on destroying destroy America on all fronts.

The Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, and Imperial Japan could only dream of such success!

With Obama, there was always more than a whiff of the overconfident dilettante, so sure of his powers that he could remain supremely comfortable with his own ignorance.

Man, that is nasty, dead center too.

But neither is he a Sarah Palin, mouthing artless banalities about this great nation of ours, or a Rick Perry, trying, like Otto from A Fish Called Wanda, to remember the middle part.

Yep. There's no "there" there with either of them. Sarah has shown disastrous judgment with her political endorsements. Perry is an obvious empty suit.

The goal, therefore, is to reduce America’s footprint; to “retrench,” as the administration would like to think of it, or to retreat, as it might more accurately be called.

To what end?

Global socialism under the UN. Isn't that obvious? Leftist politicos passing out favors to bureaucrats and entitled dependents. Unlimited power, pure and simple as an end, with unsubstantiable belief in the means.

Then again, the next American president might not have options of the sort that Obama enjoyed when he took office in 2009.

The reason for which is the Federal debt, which is why the progressives saddled us with it. All they have to do to keep us there now is for the Fed to threaten raising interest rates.

And no, I don't see a Reagan on the horizon, with the possible exception of Mike Lee.

Correct. He’d have to resign before the 2yr limit of second term, and re-run for re-election, for the 22nd Amendment to be valid. I forgot to include that; thanks for reminding me. A friend posited that yesterday as his ‘theory’, while I was in his store, and I was stunned. Never even occurred to me.

Nope...again...

22nd Amendment:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

Ooops, I got that wrong. He’d have to be selected as someone else’s VP, and then succeed that person if they’d resign in his favor. That could give him the 10yrs with the 2 election limit.

There you go.

He can step down and hope Old Joe finishes his “Appointed” term and then is re-elected twice...

Barry is gone January 20, 2016...

Unless he invokes LBJ’s plan for another term...
