The federal government is still seeking answers as to why the majority of lesbians are obese and U.S. taxpayers are footing the bill, which now totals $2.87 million.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) study is now in its fourth year, receiving an additional $670,567 for fiscal year 2014. The project seeks to determine why “nearly three-quarters of adult lesbians overweight or obese,” and why gay males are not.
In just two years the project’s budget has nearly doubled, growing from $1.5 million to nearly $3 million today, despite fears that sequestration could jeopardize the project and other NIH funding.
The study, which is being led by S. Bryn Austin, an associate epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, operates on the premise that there is a “striking interplay of gender and sexual orientation in obesity disparities.”
The researchers have been busier since last year, when the project had yielded only one paper. Those results concluded that gay and bisexual males had a “greater desire for toned muscles” than straight men.
The project now claims that lesbians have lower “athletic-self esteem” that may lead to higher rates of obesity. Another research paper found that lesbians are more likely to see themselves at a healthy weight, even though they are not.
Their research found that lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and “mostly heterosexual” adolescents exercise one to two hours less a week compared to heterosexuals. The paper also said sexual minorities are 46 to 76 percent less likely to be on a sports team, due to “gender nonconformity and athletic self-esteem.”

People turn gay because they have severe self esteem issues stemming from their physical appearance. This leads them to seek acceptance by their own kind.
“I can’t get a guy so I will get a girl who shares the same self esteem issue as I do.” Males are a bit different. While they also share the same self esteem issues, the stronger ones are just looking for something to screw. This explains prison rapes. It’s a power trip.
For the older gays, much of this stems from bad hetero marriages and while on the rebound cannot find a member of the opposite sex to show them they are still desirable.
And for the hot ones of both sexes, it is usually child abuse from a family member of the opposite sex. So they seek solace with counselors of the same sex who have experienced the same issues and coincidentally are gay.
Finally there are the ones that are “Faaaaabulous!” They are extremely talented and smart, but they fear expressing themselves will result in ridicule so they seek their own kind to console their sensitivity. Go to San Francisco for any parade and witness the flamboyance.

but we are using metformin to stop the obesity caused by the metabolic syndrome associated with it, and that also seems to affect the ovary so these women then ovulate and get pregnant. Although there is a high percentage of lesbians in those with the syndrome, nevertheless most women with the syndrome are heterosexual and have infertility.
I wonder if the high testosterone might be behind the lesbian tendencies. That is probably a taboo subject, but researching obesity is not. But I suspect it is, but unless the disease is found in early teens, one doubts it will work fòr women who are committed lesbians.

The lesbians I’ve known have been slender and VERY attractive. Lesbians aren’t all butch and riding motorcycles. You would be shocked if you knew the sexual preferences of some drop dead gorgeous gals.
