Garry Kasparov: It’s a War, Stupid!
Time ^ | 8-30-2014 | Garry Kasparov

Posted on 08/30/2014 8:50:50 PM PDT by Semper911

As Russian troops and armored columns advance in Eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian government begs for aid from the free world it hoped would receive it and protect it as one of its own. The leaders of the free world, meanwhile, are struggling to find the right terminology to free themselves from the moral responsibility to provide that protection. Putin’s bloody invasion of a sovereign European nation is an incursion, much like Crimea — remember Crimea? — was an “uncontested arrival” instead of Anschluss. A civilian airliner was blown out of the sky just six weeks ago –—remember MH17? — and with more than 100 victims still unidentified the outrage has already dissipated into polite discussions about whether it should be investigated as a crime, a war crime, or neither.

This vocabulary of cowardice emanating from Berlin and Washington today is as disgraceful as the black-is-white propaganda produced by Putin’s regime, and even more dangerous. Moscow’s smokescreens are hardly necessary in the face of so much willful blindness. Putin’s lies are obvious and expected. European leaders and the White House are even more eager than the Kremlin to pretend this conflict is local and so requires nothing more than vague promises from a very safe distance.

Obama and the west won’t lift a finger to help Ukraine and some FReepers will cheer the bloody invasion and call it a victory over “western imperialism and aggression” - or whatever term the Kremlin tells them to use.

The EU made a move on Crimea? Please . . . slowly step away from your computer.

he does need to be taken down a peg or two

By whom? If he gets any pushback whatsoever, he will deploy tactical nukes and the free world will stand back and let him do whatever the hell he wants.

This thing is already over. All that's left is to wait to see where to draw the lines on the new maps.

Dinesh D'Sousa doesn't have to imagine a world without America. We are there now.

I guess this was what Obama was talking about when he said he’d be more “flexible” in his second term, although it may be Ukraine that is getting bent over.

“And yet war has arrived regardless, as it always does in the face of weakness.”

Or as Rummy would say...

“Weakness is provocative”

You think Putin is willing to commit suicide and see Russia disappear into nuclear dust?

Why do you see Russia as suddenly insane and wanting to go out in a blaze of glory, rather than restrain their aggression?

Seriously.

Think of the timing of all of this. Springtime: Take Crimea. Early summer: Shoot down a passenger plane to distract all the hand wringers. Late summer: Invade eastern Ukraine. Fall: publish some bullshit history of the region you are now occupying.

Mix in some cyber bank hacking and a little support for ISIS to keep everyone busy, just for good measure.

Then a full two years of Obama's term left to make yourself comfortable, perhaps wrangling back a Baltic country or two, or slipping into Poland to have a look around.

And no one to stop you.

“Certainly Putin’s arrogance and language remind us more and more of Hitler’s, as does how well he has been rewarded for them. For this he can thank the overabundance of Chamberlains in the halls of power today — and there is no Churchill in sight.”

He’s got some great quotes in that article.

Not only is he a great chess player, but a great writer as well, with a lot of passion, principled and unafraid.

Obama’s idea of strength and might is sending gay athletes overseas to stamp their feet and wave rainbow flags at Putin. Meanwhile, Chuck Hagel is busy continuing the faggotization of the armed forces, trying to open it up to trannies. John Kerry, eh, where to begin? These are the same idiots who are fine with leaving our borders wide-open to accomodate middle-eastern ISIS terrorists.

I wouldn’t trust any of these degenerate creeps to do anything, much less embark on a war against Putin.

You think Putin is willing to commit suicide and see Russia disappear into nuclear dust?

Wait. You think Obama would push the button? Hell effing no he won't. And Putin knows it. So the whole "safety because of the fear of mutually assured destruction" thing is off the table.

Putin knows a few tactical nukes here and there will go unanswered. Obama has assured Putin's advances just by being the lightweight he is.

There will be people to stop him, NATO. Currently the 600 paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne are in Poland, and they will soon be replaced a combat unit from the 1st Cav.

BRUSSELS — The head of NATO said new bases in Eastern Europe will be built to counter potential conflict with Russia.
Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the NATO summit next week in Cardiff, Wales, would overcome divisions within the 28-nation mutual security organization and establish opportunities to deploy troops and equipment near the Russian border.
Poland and the three Baltic countries formerly part of the Soviet Union — Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia — have been especially vocal about the anxiety as a potential target for Russian involvement, in light of Russia’s recent annexation of Crimea, and its perceived role in helping militants in Ukraine’s breakaway eastern provinces.
According to Rasmussen:
“We will adopt what we call a readiness action plan with the aim to be able to act swiftly in this completely new security environment in Europe. We have something already called the NATO response force whose purpose is to be able to be deployed rapidly if needed. Now it’s our intention to develop what I would call a spearhead within that response force at very, very, high readiness. In order to be able to provide such rapid reinforcements you also need some reception facilities in host nations. So it will involve the pre-positioning of supplies, of equipment, preparation of infrastructure, bases, headquarters. The bottom line is you will in the future see a more visible NATO presence in the east.”

NATO won’t be surrendering to Putin, and Putin won’t be going nuclear and nuking French, British, and American troops.

Okay, put your faith in NATO, but it is a NATO without a US president with balls.

And you seem to not understand the difference between deploying tactical nukes and "going nuclear."

Put your faith in Putin if you wish, but he won’t go nuke against the nuclear French, the nuclear British, the nuclear United States, and their NATO commitments and to the troops he would be nuking.

Put your faith in Putin if you wish,

I have faith that he has a strategy, yes.

And please google tactical nuclear weapons vs. strategic nuclear weapons so at least you know what I am talking about.
