As long as Obama is POTUS, Putin had little to fear.

BTW, what is the flag on many of the Russian rebels' uniforms and tanks that looks similar to the Confederate battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia but has no stars?

You mean supporting sanctions and tightening financial screws on Russia, creating forward bases closer to Russia’s borders, creating a new reaction force that will be the 48 hour tip of the spear to the larger reaction force, moving elements of the 173rd Airborne to Poland, discussing with Sweden and Finland their interest in joining NATO, reconsidering Ukraine’s request to join NATO, allowing Navy and Air Force operations that reinforce NATO, increase level, size and frequency of NATO exercises and operations?

Yeah, I support tightening the screws before we follow your plan to submit to Putin.

it would take them 3 months to discuss Putin’s invasion and then decide to move it from one committee to another, then of course get all the reps back from their holiday homes on the coast, vote and then vote again and then discuss then vote again.

That is after Obama has delayed it for a while, while he dithers, goes golfing, goes on holiday and then has his nose wiped by the moocher.

By that time Putin will be at the borders of Poland and Slovakia looking to buy a holiday home.

“Are you suggesting that Eisenhower didn’t try to make things difficult for the Soviets? Versus the surrender-monkeys we have here now? “

We weren’t happy with the Soviet action, but I don’t remember Eisenhower exactly trying to liberate Hungary.

As I’ve said to the war-drum bangers on other threads here - if we want to send a message, we should do what Jimmy Carter did in the late 70s, which was to DRAMATICALLY INCREASE the military budget (i.e., the start of the Reagan build-up was actually under Carter).

But I don’t see that - I just see CUT AFTER CUT...and then, when we’re at our weakest in 75 years, a RUSH TO WAR. Just not too smart, in my opinion. How about we BUILD-UP a bit, so maybe we don’t get as many cities vaporized when we find out that their Topols shoot real bombs, and big bombs.

Spare me. My position has been consistent all along: we should help the Ukrainians resist the Russians.

I am not "running around" doing anything. So stop acting like an old woman.

That’s a good point. Well, the world war plan has to wait an hour or two. I’m gonna go to the store and buy a steak to grill tonight. If i see beets, I’ll ponder how Kiev is relevant to my sunny day here.

Pray tell exactly how we help them, while also trying to solve the mess Obama left in Iraq......

More weapons? Personnel? instruction manuals? beacuse that has always worked out well......

So you remember Eisenhower doing anything else? Like recon overflights (and not just U-2's), subs tapping into undersea cables, etc.? Or are you new to Cold War history?

Oops, there I said it . . . True Conservatives™ have been trying to explain to me that the Cold War is over.

It's the war flag of the Federal State of Novorossiya (aka separatists).

Sorry, I missed the part where we gave aid to the Hungarians to fight the Soviets. Could you please repeat that?

The stuff that you say - like upgrade recon, and upgraded intelligence sounds VERY MUCH like what I’ve been saying about beefing up our capabilities, without starting WW3.

...so THANK YOU for agreeing with me on the best approach.

I have been out since 1996...and perhaps the current American Military Machine (and western world) is much worse than I think. However, I have a hard time believing the Russian military junk can stand up to our modern weaponry. The Iraq conflict was a great proxy test of our technology. What...did it take 2 weeks to defeat the 4th largest army in the world.?.?

We agree on that part (except for those of us here who simply want to roll over). It's your implication that people who disagree with you are "warmongers" that's bullcrap.

Won’t happen with Obama. What Putin is basically saying is that we give a sh*t to the United States, the only remaining super power since you have a doormat of a president.

I appreciate your candor - unlike other clowns that have NO CLUE as to what what we’ve been doing the past 20 years and think we still have the Reagan military (maybe the first Gulf War is why they think we’re so invincible).

And I especially love your screen name.

But no, for the past 2 decades the Washington Times has been chronicling the military advances in Russia on a near-daily basis...and the articles are either totally fake, or scary as hell, especially because we have nothing to match them.

As to the Gulf War in 1990, we had our Cold War military, and Iraq only had second-string hardware (like us, the Russians keep their best hardware at home, or at least under the control of their own soldiers), and third-string soldiers to use that hardware. Their army did look huge on paper, and like everyone else I was shocked by how quick we crushed them.

Trying to fight Russians on what is essentially Russian territory will be an entirely different fight...nothing like that cakewalk.

Yeah exactly, some think we’ll have the Obama unicorns and rainbows and ponies all the way to Moscow.....

If anyone thinks the collapse of the USSR stopped them researching and upgrading, i have an igloo in Florida to sell them.

Even now Obama is trying to cut military and defense budgets to hell...right now while the world is burning.
