A mattress store had to close when their shipment from a major manufacturer (Sealy if I'm not mistaken) had BEDBUGS.
Open borders & illegals have a lot to do with bed bugs. In warmer climes such as Mexico & CAm & SAm bed bugs are rampant. Ditto in populated countries like Southern China & India. Jet travel is very popular now-a-days, we have lots of visitors & students & immigrants from everywhere. Get used to bed bugs.
Only good thing about bed bugs is they are not known to be carriers of serious diseases like Lyme’s disease or Ebola or plague; Because bed bugs bite basically only humans. Growing up in a warm climate, I have lots of experience with bed bugs. We placed our bedding and cots in the hot blaring sun for several hours and that fried all the bugs except their eggs. They drink very little blood, they are a nuisance but not a catastrophe. I think Americans fear bed bugs more than necessary. I think head lice and fleas are worse. Bed bugs bite mostly at night. Most of the time you won’t be even aware. Kerosene or gasoline will kill them quickly.
Another thing you can do is vacuum your bed every week and store your sheets in the freezer. They hate cold more than they do heat.
Poor you! Broadway, the museums, the opera and ballet, the orchestras, Lincoln Center, Grant’s Tomb, the great restaurants, the beautiful parks, the wide avenues, the vibrant, blazing atmosphere held no charms for you? Someone didn’t hold a door for you, boo hoo! I’d hate to see you in Paris (although rudeness there is completely overrated).
Nahh. Bedbugs became resistant to DDT decades ago.
In the 90s the EPA banned malathion and propoxur. Which are still quite effective against bedbugs but illegal to use.
Bedbugs have been bouncing back ever since.
To be fair, malathion and propoxur can be pretty nasty.
I would expect buying books or clothing or furniture or electronics through places like eBay would be leaving yourself open for a potential bedbug infestation.
I suspect not just illegals, but even legal immigrants or even an American citizen traveling from a Third World country would be a potential bedbug vector.
been there twice and hated Paris.
Hey if you like NY city then enjoy it, I hated it so it’s not a question of boo hoo, but more to the point of personal preferences .
The military had powder with DDT in it during WWII and later and even after Korea. My dad had cans of the stuff still left in a foot locker in 1986 when he died. I do not recall having the same stuff in 66-75? I wish I had kept a can or two of his.
I’ll say this about them, they are very hard workers. They bust their butts - I’ve never seen anyone slacking on the job in NYC. Which is more than I can say for some of the workers around here, in Michigan. And they’re very friendly as well. I like New Yawkas.
It has a great deal to do with illegals and an influx of people from third world nation crapholes coming here with their third world nation values which do not include personal hygiene and sanitation. We eradicated bedbugs early in the 20th century. They are now back worse than before. The third world nation refugees do not know how to throw toilet paper in the toilet and flush. They do not know that brushing one’s teeth 2-3 times per day is good for one’s teeth. They do not wash their hands after using restroom. They do not wash their hands before eating. I have witnessed third world nation refugees washing their feet in a public urinal and touching the urinal cake.
I live here, and 10 years ago, this crap did not exist.
I vote for Diatomaceous Earth for the Subways.
Were you one of those tourists who likes to stand in doorway in one of Rockefeller Center’s buildings or in the middle of the subway platform when others are trying to get to and from work? Or were you one of those tourists who stands on Fifth Avenue with your camera or tour map during morning or evening rush hour asking directions of those trying to catch their train or get to work? Or were you one of those tourists asking if their pizza was gluten-free, or if you could have pineapple or tofu on top of it? Or were you one of those tourists who stands on the corner of Park Avenue and 45th Street demanding to know where Chipotle is because your iPhone tells you it’s somewhere near. I mean, it’s really tough to get around here, you know, with all the streets numbered and all.
I have encountered numerous New Yorkers who have helped me with car trouble, after I tripped on the stairs in the subway, after some skell hassled me on the subway for money, or after I got mugged. It is rare that I have encountered someone who did not hold a door for me or say thank you. Those who do get shamed very noticeably. New Yorkers may not be all hugs and smiles, but they are real. Don’t mess with us, and we won’t mess with you.
We don’t need you or your tourism dollars. We more than make up for it in taxes and parking tickets. And in what we pay for commuting expenses.
Sorry, couldn’t resist. You just have to get to know us before you judge us like that. We are not all bad.
You hit on something that I love about my people: fall down, get sick, or get trapped between the subway door and the platform and watch businessmen drop their briefcases and hustle over to rescue you. I still remember a man, obviously dying of AIDs, collapsing on 2nd Avenue and dozens of men and women rushing to lift him up. All the people who lined up - in hundreds - to give blood on 9/11 only to realize there were no survivors so giving blood was quite beside the point. My awful liberal neighbors going down to Ground Zero to help recover body parts and hand out water to aid workers. They will never fail you in an emergency or crisis. They are Americans.
Hated Paris. Wow...
I did , why does this bother you?
I;ve been to many countries and most of Europe so Paris is near the bottom of my list, however Copenhagen, Bergan,,Tromso, , Voss , Milan, Marseilles, Toulouse are my favorites , Hannover, Hamburg too.
You can also add in there Charleston SC.
I don’t think malathion is banned.
.
I plan on going to Napoli for Christmas and by the way Prague, Budapest are nice too.
