One of the great mysteries of the post-financial crisis world is why the U.S. has lacked inflation despite all the money being pumped into the economy.
The St. Louis Federal Reserve thinks it has the answer: A paper the central bank branch published this week blames the low level of money movement on consumers and their "willingness to hoard money," as well as the Fed's own policies.

“Hoarding money” ?
Isn’t that just saving money?
And who says there is no inflation? I just spent $2.00 on a 1.5 oz. Hershey bar.
“Another little factoid came out recently: Most Americans would have to sell something or get a loan if they had to come up with $400.”
I remember when I first read that I didn’t believe it-——but found out it was closer to the truth than I
thought.
I was quite surprised when I read some of the comments.

On sale at HEB for a buck! The bigger ones.
Well it is one thing to say it, another on the facts. What is the average amount money hoarded by people over the last 15 years?
Being future oriented is racist according to the left, so savings had to be labeled negatively. Voila, it’s hoarding money.
I think you and several others have hit upon something that is a significant factor, though surely not the only factor:
A great many people have purchased firearms and stocked up on ammunition, instead of putting that money in the bank, or spending it on typical consumer items (new stereo, etc.). Guns and ammo are not exactly cheap commodities, anymore. I would suspect that firearms and ammo are NOT factored into the Cost of Living Index in a real world fashion, if, indeed, at all.
If it wasn’t for those damned consumers Obamanomics would be a roaring success. Bunch of racists!
Proud consumer hoarder of my money to hurt Onamas economy since Nibember, 2008.
Yes, I say that with pride.
“have seriously been considering leaving the country”
I recommend the Scot-Irish Appalachians area. Homesteads are under $50000. Much under if you’re able to do some work.
