Joan Rivers passed away today after suffering complications during surgery.
She was 81.
NBC News reported:
Raspy-voiced and brassy, Rivers was always self-deprecating, foul-mouthed and politically incorrect. A master of reinvention, she endured in show business because of her tenacious work ethic which she credited to her immigrant mentality.
Comedians typically push the envelope, but Rivers proved time and again that she didnt even see the envelope. To her fans, she was as shocking as she was endearing.
The way she is funny, she tells the truth according to herself, the late film critic Roger Ebert wrote in 2010. She hates some people. She has political opinions. Her observations are so merciless and her timing so precise that even if you like that person, you laugh. She is a sadist of comedy, unafraid to be cruel even too cruel.
No topic was off limits. From Elizabeth Taylor to Queen Elizabeth to even Anne Frank, Rivers loved going after public figures.
I mock everybody, regardless of race, creed or color, she told the Toronto Star in July. Every joke I make, no matter how tasteless, is there to draw attention to something I really care about.
True and she was genuinely funny and had a sharp mind!
Not to be a conspiracy theorist and realizing that she was elderly, doesn’t it seem odd that she would die so soon after “outing” Mr. and Mrs. Obama?
I don’t know. clinics are limited and are not hospitals. I have been praying for Joan Rivers recovery for some unknown reason. I was not a particular fan but just didn’t want her to go this way and found her frankness refreshing.
Having said all that a 81 year old person of her means should have not go to a clinic. She should have gone to a hospital IMO. She gambled and lost. I blame her and not necessarily the clinic although if they did something wrong they should be held accountable.
Odd, she “suddenly” got sick after her comments about how the “Palestinians” were wrong because they were launching rockets at innocents.
She was right.
Wonder if she was legitimately sick, or if that got “helped.”
I hope there is a lawsuit that makes it to court. It will be very unpopular with the practicing specialists, but I think that may be the only way well find out in public what happened here.
R.I.P. Joan Rivers.
She spoke the truth without fear:
Sorry about your mom
So kind.....thank you, c_b.
[ Very sad, she was healthy & working in the days before this procedure, glad to see the clinic being investigated. Youd think theyd have the means to treat what happened to her, right there, instead of wasting time waiting for an ambulance. Too much time passed without proper treatment. ]
(mocking voice)
You are jumping to conclusions, stop jumping to conclusions and you have no data to back this UP dammit!!!
(/mocking voice)
Sorry, I had a freeper climb down my throat for saying something simular in a pervious Joan Rivers thread so i decided to pass on the “Love”....
I agree with you you would think they would have an O2 sensor and at least some basic paramedic gear to open the airway and whatnot, especially with them being Nose/ear/throat type related clinic....
Did they even have Intubation gear???
Or did they and they gave her too much anasthetic...?
The investigation of the clinic should prove interesting...
[ Reserve judgment until all the facts are known. Sometimes 81-year-olds die just because their time is up, and she could have had a stroke or embolism or whatever no matter where she was that morning. How many of us know people who are fine one day, gone the next?
The matter certainly should be investigated, but throwing stones is a bit premature. ]
Thank you for gracing us with your omniscience...
I guess speculating on things is now outlawed here....
Thanks
Thanks...that was great. I’ve known for years that she leaned Right, just from some of the things she’d say and do. But that clip sums it up....she is a hero who will be missed.
My husband knew Joan Rivers, having played lead trumpet in her backing ensemble when she brought her act to the Boston area years ago. He remembers her “as a beautiful and most gracious lady,” so unlike her stage persona in the kindly, open way she related to people. She was the real thing, the genuine article. R.I.P.

Heard a doctor say there are nerve connections between the throat and the heart (maybe common bundles/branches?), and that the endoscopy could have irritated the nerves and caused the cardiac arrest. Don’t know the accuracy of this.
With all that plastic she will be looking the same a thousand years from now.
RIP Joan.
I think so too!
I agree. This was sad to hear but how could anyone not have expected it? 81 is NOT 51, no matter how much surgery she had to deny it. And all those surgeries can’t have been easy on someone her age. I don’t understand the clinic not hospital thing either, unless celebrities like her have come to think of ‘procedures’ as no big deal after they’ve had so many. You can’t treat advanced age so casually. Personally, I would look for a Muslim clinic employee somewhere-so soon after her vilification of them this IS suspicious. Were I her daughter, lawyers would be busy.
Old school “Borscht Belt” era comedian who knew her craft.
Those left of that time are few and far in-between, sadly.
