Publius, I was born in March of 1960 when “A Theme from a Summer Place” peaked at #1 - the first instrumental to do so and I believe still the or one of the top selling instrumentals too. Ironically it also peaked during one of the top ten snowstorms here in Boston.

I like this version:

It a reminder to me of the times I was born in.

“Edelweiss” from “The Sound of Music” is one of my favorites.

I like this, but it's probably not the same one:

Edelweiss--Friedrich Ahlers (1939)

Lot of good ones mentioned above. Here are a couple I like.

IMHO the best rendition of the Marine Corp Hymn is from the movie Halls of Montezuma with Richard Widmark.

I also like the theme song from She Wore A Yellow Ribbon especially when they are leaving the fort. Here is a link to the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BQPwob6-fI

The Sandpipers: "Come Saturday Morning"

From 1968's "The Sterile Cuckoo". The book took a lighter look at the relationship than the movie. The film is a heartbreaker.
