Obama at NATO Summit: An Attack Against One Member State Should be Attack Against All of Us
Townhall.com ^ | September 5, 2014 | Daniel Doherty

Speaking to reporters from Newport, Wales -- where numerous nations, including the US, met for a NATO summit on Wednesday -- President Obama delivered a short statement explaining what, exactly, was accomplished.

“First and foremost, we have reaffirmed the central mission of the alliance,” he said. “An armed attack against one [member state] should be an attack [against all of us].”

“It is a binding, treaty obligation,” he continued. “It is non-negotiable.”

What’s more, he noted that the US and its NATO allies will increase “air patrols over the Baltics” and “naval patrols in the Black Sea.” Best of all, he said, “all 28 countries in NATO agreed to commit to these measures.”

These measures, however, also include every member spending "two percent" of GDP on “security measures” from now on.

After all, he said, now is not the time for "complacency.”

But he went further. He announced that NATO will put additional pressure on Russia through targeted sanctions to end their belligerence and occupation of Crimea.

“[NATO will] deepen and broaden sanctions against Russia’s economy and defense sectors,” he said.

Finally, he noted, the NATO alliance is an inclusive body that seeks only willing and able partners.

“We reaffirmed the door to NATO membership remains open to nations who can meet our high standards,” he intoned. “I also leave here confident that NATO allies and leaders are [committed to a] broad international effort [to help fight ISIS]."

“Our alliance will continue to do everything necessary to ensure [the common defense] and protect our citizens,” he said.

What happens if a newly independent Kurdistan attacks Turkey to liberate Kurds there? What happens if Turkey's ISIS buddies turn on them?

Turkey's in NATO

Shouldn't he have said: "An attack against one member state should be treated as attack against all of us"?

The way he said it makes it sound like he is giving advice (or orders) to those who would attack a NATO country.

I don’t know if anybody else remembers Reagan, Gadaffi and the Line of Death in the Med, but I do. Dang if this doesn’t sound exactly the same.

On another not, got into a discussion with a supposed conservative at NRO a couple days ago.

I was supporting the notion that we needed to defend our NATO allies no matter what. His response was that if I felt so strongly about it, I should go fight in Estonia, but leave him and the rest of America out of it.

Brought to my mind Munich and Chamberlain. I wonder how many other conservatives have the same POV.

LOL. No kidding.

Needs a little 'thought bubble' over Robertson's head with,
"Wot , grab my ankles?"

Obama could not lead a band of randy queers through a homosexual bath house on the Northside of Chicago with a wad of $1,000 to choke a horse, a wallet full of credit cards, and life memberships for all. He would not realize what leadership was if he tripped over it. He's a rabble rousing community organizer and nothing else. Totally clueless, inept, spineless, and hopeless.

Obola just abrogates treaties just like he does the constitution.

When this putz finally leaves office, the US will be a pariah on the world diplomatic stage.

What if the bad guys in this case were us? The US and NATO? It seems the Opium Wars never really ended. I don’t trust Obama one bit, but the reality is he was placed.

The British sordid history of poisoning an entire nation with heroin for huge profits, and the resulting slave nation that Britain left in ruins, is disturbing.

“Totally clueless, inept, spineless, and hopeless.” I beg to differ. The descriptors you listed are accurate excepting the use of the words clueless and inept. There is an agenda and regardless of what appears to us to be a bumbling nature and a lack of fortitude in confronting our enemies, he is adhering to and fulfilling the demands of said agenda. He is intentionally lowering our status on the world stage.

Turkey is about to have another election and they are worried that more Fundamentalists will get elected into power.
They are mostly a secular government who have somewhat religious citizens. Women like to be equal in that country.

Are they trust worthy to fight Isis? IMO, ask if they want to be part of this and they will say yes or no.

What if Israel is forced to attack Turkey who arms Hamas and gives them money?

Is Nato going to attack Jews?

Turkey announced they are going to run the Israeli blockade off Gaza.

Better to Dump Islamic radical and terrorist sponsor Turkey before getting in a fight with a nuclear nation with 200 nukes. What has Turkey ever done but deny US and Nato of launching attacks from Turkey?

>>>>>>The author claims NATO is the most pro US organization in thw world, but I think the organization has obviously been compromised years ago. Afghanistan is flooding world markets with cheap, pure, dangerous, heroin while NATO nations see no evil.<<<<<

NATO nations are busy guarding production and steady flow.

Taliban cut the poppy production to zero and it threatened world financial markets (heroin is reserve currency). As a result, they were bombed to the stone age, Afghanistan invaded and poppy production re-established and inceased manyfold. As a result of extreme output, prices fell.

Beside being reserve currency, heroin is a weapon, the number of junkies skyrocketed in Iran and Pakistan, and growing fast in Russia. It was not possible with expensive heroin, but possible with cheap one. Supply driving demand.

As of some strange collusion going on in Ukraine, it could be you are right, something is amiss.

1. Ruskies were building Commmand and control centers under the guise of Olympics, yet NATO did not "see it" but they could see $50B money being looted. Only fool can believe such amount of money can be stolen (10 Ton trailer full of gold is $400M)and not thinking where it really went (you know, $3,500 toilet seats and $150 washers in Pentagon reports).

2. NATO did not see that Russia will return Crimea to Russian fold. (Only dummies did not know that Crimea was given to Ukraine by drunkard Ukrainian peasant Khrushchev in 1954).

3. Unusually high losses of Ukraine Army caused by falling into encirclement after encirclement and destroyed by pincer movements, as well as extremely high losses of AF. As if someone is in a hurry to disarm them.

4. Absolute radio silence about MH17 in the last 30 days. U.S. NATO and Ukraine are silent because being caught red handed, Russia is silent because have the upper hand of evidence. How they played their upper hand?

Methinks there are many hidden hands in this conflict (oligarchs, their "business" partners in Ukraine, Russia and the West) hawks and doves in various governments. We see only the shadows on the wall.

Agreed. Carter feigned the same ineptitude. Obama pretends to be hands off, but he clearly has an agenda. The question is who is pulling the strings? Obviously Soros is a world class manipulator, he is said to be an agent of the Rothschild family. He also has ties to Rockefeller. The common denominator with Obama and Carter and this treasonous foreign policy is Brzezinski. "I encourage the Chinese to support Pol Pot,'' said Brzezinski, Carter's national security adviser at the time. http://www.nytimes.com/1998/04/17/world/death-of-pol-pot-the-diplomacy-pol-pot-s-end-won-t-stop-us-pursuit-of-his-circle.html Zbigniew (Zbig) comes from Polish family considered "nobility", didn't become a citizen until 1958, has ties to all recent US presidents, but was appointed NSA advisor under President Carter, he also has direct ties to the Bilderbergs, George Soros, et al. http://www.muckety.com/Query?SearchResult=4166&SearchResult=2005&graph=MucketyMap?_r=2D Brzezinski was a Columbia professor where Obama "studied". Obama nominated Zbig's son Mark ambassador to Sweden in 2011. Zbig's daughter Mika, works for MSNBC, and was quoted this week as saying that "Obama was too smart for his job". Brzezinki also cofounded the Trilateral commission with David Rockefeller serving as Director from '73 to '76. That is when Brzezinski selected Georgia governor Jimmy Carter as a member. I n 1976 Carter announced his candidacy for president. That year Carter made Brzezinski US national security advisor. As Carter's advisor, he paved the way for normalizing relations with China, the US friendly shah of Iran was overthrown which resulted in the US hostage crisis, the energy crisis, and war in Afghanistan. In 1981 President Carter presented Brzezinski with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Quote"John Kerry is a terrific choice." - Zbigniew Brzezinski on Dec 23, 2012 In a 2009 speech to his fellow elitists, Zbigniew Brzezinski said, "It Is Infinitely Easier to Kill a Million People than it is to Control Them". He is on video and can't deny what he said, as he has done with his other statements. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jkCEOSgLRt4&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DjkCEOSgLRt4 Brzezinski was an "advisor" for Obama's campaign, http://www.nysun.com/foreign/obama-adviser-leads-delegation-to-damascus/71123/ and is clearly functioning as Foreign Policy advisor for Obama, although he doesn't seem to be on the books. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/12/obama-adviser-leads-deleg_n_86186.html
