Sure sounds like Ted Cruz is getting closer to running for president

A complement to Friday’s post on Jeb Bush. I don’t know how I convinced myself that Cruz probably wouldn’t run, but I did. I think it was a combination of his age, his short tenure in the Senate, and the political damage he suffered from the shutdown (which he’s still trying to undo). Those first two are weak arguments, though. A young nominee is arguably just what the doctor ordered for the GOP against the Clinton dinosaurs, and The One proved that being a Senate newbie is no bar to the presidency. Cruz will have spent as much time there by 2016 as Obama had spent by 2008.

The shutdown is a more serious obstacle but most of Cruz’s rivals in the 2016 GOP field, especially on the right, have heavy baggage they’ll need to somehow unload too. Rubio has an amnesty problem; Rand Paul, increasingly, has a non-interventionism problem; and Scott Walker has a might-actually-lose-his-reelection problem. Being seen as responsible for the 2013 shutdown is, if anything, probably an asset in the GOP’s conservative mini-primary, and if Cruz can emerge from that, he’ll face one of two flawed candidates in Jeb, who’ll suffer from the electorate’s Bush fatigue, or Christie, who’ll somehow have to manage Bridgegate and his own irascible demeanor. If you’re Cruz, why not take your chances?

His smarts and rhetorical skill earned him a Senate seat in a state full of powerful, ambitious conservatives before his 42nd birthday. A guy in that position must be convinced that he can talk himself, at the very least, into being the GOP’s presidential nominee. Plus, six years after the tea-party movement was born, it’s high time they had a serious candidate in the field whom they can endorse full-throatedly.

Then there’s always Romney, despite his claims that he wouldn’t run. The other day Pat Buchanan remarked, “The only cure for Presidential fever is embalming fluid.” After all, even Slow Joe thinks he has a shot.

He could really mess up the plans of the GOP-wing of the Democrat party.

“This guy’s on drugs.”

No, he’s a person who would never vote for Cruz in the first place.

****

Bingo. The writer goes out of his way to trash Cruz for the shutdown while ignoring that in the real world the government shutdown was a good thing that should have lasted a lot longer (except for the gutless wonders of the GOPe).

Why bring up Jeb and Crispy? Why not mention Mitt as well? All are sure losers in my book. Two time wasted votes, I will stay home if any of these RINOS are it!

Whoever wins a Presidential election in the United States henchforth...
IS THE ONE SUPPOSED TO WIN...

It’s beyond voter fraud.. it’s gone to “Animal Farm”..
Voters “fed”, “milked”, “processed”...

Moos, grunts, squeeks, and Oinks are noted then disregarded..

Any that don’t like it.. are “Anti-Milking”..

I see very little chance for Ted. He has not been running for 10 years already. He has not got the many years of IOUs out. He has not worked the network for nearly long enough. Jeb and Mitt have. One of them, in the normal course of events, will be the Nominee. They have the benefit also of the backing of the Big Money and of the NRC which will duly trash Cruz and anyone else who is not In Line for ther supreme Republican honor- the Nomination.

And that is the supreme honor because Republican mainline candidates do not aspire to any higher. The Presidency is, to them, a pain in the ass and they don't want it. They do crave the recognition of their Party after which they will strive to throw the election.

Sometimes, as with the Bushes, it doesn't quite work out and they must serve. Bush II even seemed to enjoy it in his second term. Bush I couldn't do anything that would have thrown his own election because he couldn't convince the voters that he wasn't Reagan Redux, much as he tried, and he tried. He surely breathed a sigh of relief when he didn't get elected to a second term.

Personally, I think he would make a better policy guy than executive.

However, it would be hilarious to see a Constitutionalist like him ask Congress for a declaration of war against ISIS and see them freak out.

Do we agree a conservative can not get elected by the base alone?

Will we still stick when he has to move his message to attract the liberal middle, by de-emphasizing for a period of time the social issues? How about when he can not for a moment pal around with Palin and expect to win.

The party of the “Mississippi treatment”, which is now destined for all conservatives running against Establishment candidates, could make one reasonably wonder why a true conservative would even run on the Republican ticket.

Cruz may be the only one alive with the ability and the tone to successfully deliver a conservative message and make it palatable to a near socialist leaning majority of American voters.

How he battles both the Republican Party Establishment and their candidates and the Democrat Party and the Wall Sreet globalist contingency and the Chamber of Commerce, all at the same time, will be a VERY expensive and arduous endeavor.

Scott Walker has a might-actually-lose-his-reelection problem.

Then the Wisconsin voters would be fools, considering what he's done for the state. Besides, he survived the recall effort.
