Prosecutor wants jail time for Dinesh D'Souza
American Thinker ^ | 09/11/2014 | Rick Moran

Saying that the defendant had offered no proof that he felt remorse for his crime, a New York prosecutor is asking a judge to send Dinesh D'Souza to jail for violating campaign finance laws.

D'Souza pled guilty to making straw donations to the 2012 United States Senate campaign of Wendy E. Long. He asked two friends and their wives to donate  the maximum to Long's campaign - $20,000 in all - and then reimbursed them, thus exceeding the $5,000 limit on donations per election cycle.

Considering all the chicanery conducted by the Obama campaigns of 2008 and 2012, where millions of dollars in illegal campaign contributions came in, the idea of sending D'Souza to jail for a $20,000 violation of the law is absurd and laughable.

New York Times:

In seeking a prison term for Mr. D’Souza, 53, the government disputed his lawyer’s contention in recent court papers that his client had “unequivocally accepted responsibility” for his crime.

“The defendant pled guilty at the last possible moment before trial began,” prosecutors wrote, “not because he actually accepted responsibility for his conduct, but because he was in fact guilty and he had no defense or excuse for his criminal conduct.”

“The defendant’s crime is serious and strikes at the heart of our federal election system,” prosecutors added.

The government had said Mr. D’Souza arranged in August 2012 to have two friends each donate $10,000 on behalf of themselves and their spouses to Ms. Long’s campaign, with the understanding that Mr. D’Souza would reimburse their contributions. That resulted in a contribution of $20,000, exceeding the $5,000 individual limit for the 2012 election cycle.

Unfortunately for D’Souza, he belongs to the wrong party and criticized the wrong president.

This is what happens to you in a banana republic.

I think we all anticipated this. How many years depends on the political orientation of the judge.

This is a tactic from the left, Lawfare. The idea is to prosecute any and all political opposition using campaign finance laws to arrest, prosecute, and criminalize any conservative fund raising. It gets played up in the cooperative media with the “all conservatives are corrupt hypocrites” template to educate the masses that being conservative is a crime both legally and morally. They also get the added benefit of tying up the conservative organizations in court spending any money available defending themselves and not for their main mission in the political arena. The leftist prosecutors also get to see donor list which they can leak to the leftist media or use to widen their “investigation” to prevent any more donations to these “criminal organizations”.This is why our friends the democracts are so eager to push “campaign finance reform laws”.Of course Teacher’s Unions,Municipal & State Employees Unions, the NAACP or any of Soro’s funded front groups wouldn’t have any trouble as these are civic minded organizations that are only out to improve the public welfare and educate the public politically with the “real facts”.

This is political persecution. This is not justice. If he had been democrat and praising this administration, he would be free from prosecution.

The Regime is going to use the D’Sousa case to show everyone what can happen to them if they do not bend the knee and worship Obama. This is just the white collar way of doing the same thing a black Zill pulling up in the night and disappearing someone.

In my opinion there should be no limit on the amount of money an individual wishes to donate to a campaign. So, to me, D’Souza violated a bad law.

AND the prosecutor is correct IMHO. Shame on D’Souza for acting like a Democrat from Chicago. and there is definitely NOT a sarcasm tag with this comment.
