(CNN) -- Here's a question that seems to be lost in the debate over the Scottish independence vote scheduled for September 18:
I realize that Americans fought a bloody war of independence from England in the late 1700s, but our rifts have healed over the past 240 years. In 2013, the Pew Research Center reported that England topped America's list of favorite nations, in a near-tie with our beloved northern neighbor, Canada.
In the past few years, as America has degenerated into political and economic chaos, it has become increasingly clear that we would be far better off if we apologized for our revolt against the Crown and requested to rejoin the United Kingdom.

While I believe this is written tongue in cheek, there would be something to gain by making an alliance among English speaking nations.

It is laughable. But for argument sake, here’s a counterproposal. Britain agrees to become the 51st State by a) accepting our Constitution and reforming their government on republican (small “r”, goodbye Your Majesty) lines, b) that includes adherence to all the amendments in our Constitution including no. 2 (rearm the British people so they can defend themselves once more), and c) they remove themselves from membership in the now defunct Commonwealth and the EU and review for general deportation all current residents of Britain who were permitted, or whose ancestors were permitted, to enter the country under that incredibly bad idea. Default position would be “you and your family are going back to your native s@#$ hole” but with appeals granted on the basis of no criminal record or membership in any subversive organizations or movements (i.e. any mosque). It would be quite a nice addition and worth adding a star to the flag under those conditions.

There are some beautiful places in Oz where I’d like to live like the area between Sydney and Adelaide. Great country.
It may have been turned into a song but it started out as a poem by one of Scotland's finest citizens, one Robert Burns. Burns seems to have ignored the fact that at the time Scotland was bust due to an ill advised land deal in Florida Panama.
