I don’t believe it
I believe it after seeing that PBS frontline special last season
I worked for a brain specialist (specifically a neuropathologist) at a major hospital. If doctors trained in brain science say that repeated head injuries lead to big problems later on I think I can accept that.Look at Cassius Clay.
Nearly 100% of the general population face the same prospect if they live long enough and don’t die young from other causes.
The numbers are meaningless unless compared to general populations. They may or may not be significant.
“Could...”
That’s right!
“Could...”
I have a tried and true idea, but what the hell, why bother looking at a cross-section of current ex-players, and see how their numbers look? We already have “Could...”.
No problem here with people that want to play the game or watch the game. Individual responsibility and all that. But there is a huge problem with people that want to pretend there are no costs attached to their entertainment besides their cable bill.
Oh...and that Cable bill being the thing that gives liberals a blank check to destroy the country.
If they live long enough, they all -— we all -— face it.
50% of all people at age 85 have it. This %age will grow until we figure out what is causing this epidemic of neurodegenerative diseases at all ages.
There is a REASON for all this dementia, ALS, Parkinson’s, autism, ADHD, etc. THERE IS SOMETHING WE ARE DOING WRONG.
Of course major blows to the brain don’t help but violent sports have risks. I’m more concerned with the increase in dementia for the entire world population.
Ban all sports.
It’s the obvious nanny answer.
To all the deniers, I’m afraid this is a real issue, and all the complaints about wussification of America won’t change that. I don’t know the solution but I do believe that more and more parents won’t let their sons play high school football because of this. And if that happens where will the NFL draw their players from 10 or 15 years from now.
Looks as if they could have provided some actual statistsical comparisons to the general population rather than that general statement.
And they didn't start playing pro football, or football in general thirty or forty years ago. Pro football started well before WWII. The first pro football players have died of old age. Looks like there'd be a fair sized population of former players to study and generate stats from.
Lots of assumptions and generalities and not many well supported facts.
1. Kill the NFL - that dirty, wealthy corporate leech!
2. Get rid of football - it turns boys into healthy, normal-aggressive, strong bodied youths. We must have weak willed, weak bodied men and boys so fascist/commies can take over more easily.
3. Bring in soccer - that beautiful European game in which there are very few winners and, therefore, is completely un-American.
If the NFL itself admits that players will get early dementia twice as often as the general population, then players probably develop dementia four times as often as the general population.
World on fire. Ebola going global. MSM wants to talk about the NFL.
The US Senate wants to talk about the NFL.
I was told a few years ago from medical professionals that within 12 years there will be no neurological disease that cannot be cured. They said that with a high degree of confidence.
I don’t know if it has anything to do with stem cell reaseach or not but if true, it is quite exciting.
Hopefully the game of football will still be around by then.
I don’t believe it. I think the stats are jacked up for the law suit.
I’ll believe this when I see Joe Montana, John Elway, and Steve Young knocking off liquor stores and beating their wives.
The NFL pulls in billions—EVERY year. Giving back 5% (figured over 10 years) to make this all go away is a no-brainer. That’s why the NFL is playing ball.
Concussions / dementia bump for later....
