AUSTIN National Democrats dropped in on Austin on Friday, seeking to shore up support in Texas most liberal city ahead of the elections in November.
Vice President Joe Biden met with some of his partys top donors downtown while Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz visited the University of Texas at Austin to get out the vote.
Biden arrived downtown shortly after 3 p.m., snarling traffic as his motorcade made its way from Interstate 35 to the Four Seasons on Cesar Chavez Street, where the DNCs National Finance Committee is reportedly holding a retreat this weekend. He entered the hotel through a back entrance as several onlookers watched from the nearest intersection.
In the evening, Biden attended an event for the DNC at Brazos Hall, which is a few blocks north of the Four Seasons. The event was not billed as a fundraiser but a reception for the the National Finance Committee.
At least one Democrat from the Legislature was in attendance, with Sen. Kirk Watson of Austin tweeting a picture of Biden apparently speaking at the reception. DJ Mel, the Austinite who spun for President Barack Obamas inaugural ball in 2012, also took to social media to shed some light on the private event, suggesting on Instagram he had been tapped for the gig.
Wasserman Schultz, a congresswoman from Florida, spent Friday afternoon on the other side of downtown, stopping by UT-Austin to speak with students about voter registration. Flanked by U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett and Texas Democratic officials, Wasserman Schultz took aim at the states tough voter ID law, saying it shows Republicans are trying to rig the outcome of elections they would otherwise lose.
Theres no valid reason other than that they know that young people vote, Wasserman Schultz told the students. Youre most likely to go to the polls and vote for Democrats because we stand up for the issues that are most important to you.
She also put in a good word for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Wendy Davis and running mate Leticia Van de Putte, saying she is counting on them winning on the shoulders of Texas college students.
Earlier Friday, Wasserman Schultz attended a fundraiser in Fort Worth. She was scheduled to go to another one Friday evening in Austin.
I was wondering why the cold winds were blowing and the rain let loose - a massive drop in temperature today. God said “let there be climate change” and the chill descended from the heavens!
Democrats are slime. Pure, viscous, stinking slime.
You’d be surprised how many millions of Texans believe in “Democrat democracy” even if they are not yet organized sufficiently to win a statewide election.
Just take one look at Austin’s Travis County DEMOCRAT DA:

or, as I like to call it "Hanoi in the Hill Country"
Well....except for the pesky fact student ID's are no proof of citizenship.
Sounds like TX Republicans better get control of their public university system if it is Democrat territory..\
