Column What happens if Republicans win the Senate?
LATimes ^ | September 16, 2014 | Doyle McManus

For most of the year, it seemed almost certain that Republicans would win the six additional U.S. Senate seats they need to oust the Democrats from their majority and take control of Congress..

But the outlook has turned murkier in recent weeks. While a GOP majority is still the most likely outcome, it's no longer as sure a bet. Endangered Democratic incumbents in North Carolina and Alaska are waging surprisingly strong campaigns, and a Republican incumbent in Kansas is in unexpected trouble. "We don't have a lock on this thing at all," one GOP strategist told me recently.

Can’t be true. The GOP-E got all the “electable” candidates they wanted, right?

On to victory! Onward, the mushy middle!

Can the GOP's pragmatists resist their party's swing to the right, strike alliances with centrist Democrats and actually pass important legislation next year?

I pray not.

Not to worry. The GOPe doesn’t want the Senate, and with their “strategy” of running on not being Democrats, they won’t get it.

Some wise person on this site several years ago said it makes no difference, we are voting for which form of nominal socialism we want for the next four years (or six in this case). How very true.

What happens if the GOP wins the Senate?

Mitch “turtle neck” McConnell reinstates the filibuster as a show of goodwill for his “friends across the aisle”. After the press conference, Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer give Mitch a swirlie in the Senate john.

From 2014 to 2016, the GOP rubberstamps the democrat agenda. When their constituents ask “WTF?”, they shake their heads solemntly, make sighing noises and say “If only we held the presidency.”

you’d complain if we had 535 popes in office, because they were the wrong kind of conservative for you.

Even w RINO’s in office we ought to be able to put a wrench in Obama’s continued destruction of America.

Well they may not get it but you are mistaken if you believe they don't want it. The GOPe people believe that the Tea Party threatens their ability to win the Senate. They are wrong about that but it is their belief and they are acting on it.

And yes, that foolish view may cost them the Senate.

The only difference in the here and now is that Obama would actually have to Veto things instead of Reid.

Of course the Republiquacks will probably muck that up too.

Well if you take a principled stand on issues of substance during an election the voters would then expect you to stand on those principles in office.

And that could get you in a sticky wicket with big campaign donors don’t you know.

The fact that this is not in the bag is a testament to how little the GOP is talking about the issues and their plans to solve problems.
